The Indian government has attacked Chinese enterprises again. According to India's "business standard" reported on the 23rd, the tax bureau of the Indian Ministry of Finance raided the offices and manufacturing plants of mobile phone manufacturers Xiaomi, oppo, Yijia and Foxconn in India on the 21st and 22nd in a major crackdown on all Indian mobile phone manufacturers and distributors. Source Vision China The raid began on the evening of the 21st, involving more than 20 places such as Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Calcutta and Guwahati. The first to be searched were the offices of Hongmi, oppo and Foxconn near the industrial park in sriberrubud. According to India's "economic times" reported on the 23rd, the raid continued until the night of the 22nd, when the tax bureau announced the operation. People familiar with the matter disclosed that the factories, warehouses, offices and residences of some executives of the above-mentioned companies, as well as some distributors of these companies, were all within the scope of the raid. Executives of some companies in India were also questioned. According to the economic times, an Indian official claimed that "reliable information" showed that the above-mentioned Chinese companies concealed their income, avoided taxes and made false accounts. Some companies lost money on their books, but they were actually profitable. The business standard newspaper said that some fintech companies were also within the scope of the search operation. Xiaomi spokesman responded on the 22nd, "as a responsible company, we attach great importance to ensuring that we comply with all laws of India. As an investment partner of India, we are fully cooperating with relevant Indian departments to ensure that they obtain all the information they need." Oppo also said in a statement, "as an investment partner in India, we highly respect and abide by Indian laws. We will continue to fully cooperate with relevant departments in accordance with procedures." According to the reporter of the global times, Yijia company has not responded to this, and Foxconn said it is understanding the situation. This is not the first time that Chinese enterprises have been subjected to such raids. According to the business standard, several offices of ZTE in India were raided in August this year, and its executives were questioned on suspicion of tax evasion. Shortly after the conflict between Indian and Chinese troops in the kalwan Valley last year, Indian tax authorities searched more than a dozen places associated with the Chinese, claiming that several Chinese and their partners were suspected of money laundering through shell companies. Lin minwang, a researcher at the Institute of international studies of Fudan University, told the global times on the 21st that India's crackdown on Chinese enterprises is mainly driven by politics. "Closing the door to kill pigs" is a very traditional practice in India. In the past, when India had poor relations with Europe and the United States, European and American enterprises also had similar experience, and many enterprises withdrew from India. Lin minwang analyzed that on the one hand, this is because India's economic situation is not good. On the other hand, some people in India encourage economic decoupling from China. They don't care whether Chinese enterprises are interested in the Indian market. Lin minwang said that on the whole, the current business environment faced by Chinese enterprises in India is relatively poor, and this tax investigation ostensibly complies with laws and regulations, but its political and economic intentions have been obvious and its methods are very clumsy. Therefore, Chinese enterprises need to operate more standardized in the future and do not let India find an excuse to crack down. (Xinhua News Agency)
