World Heritage Tour from a new perspective

2021-12-13

The documentary series "World Heritage walk", which was jointly produced by the film and television drama documentary center of CCTV and the Japan Broadcasting Association (hereinafter referred to as NHK), was broadcast on CCTV record channel from November 28 to 30. The film has three episodes, each 50 minutes, recording the beauty and culture of Lijiang, Gulangyu and Hangzhou, China, which have world heritage sites. There are 56 world heritage sites in China. It is an effective way to promote them to the international stage to turn these world heritage sites into high-quality documentaries by means of international co shooting. As early as the 1980s, CCTV and NHK cooperated in shooting the Silk Road to spread the story of China's Silk Road to the world. This time, China Central Radio and Television Corporation and NHK joined hands again. The two sides sent creative teams to carry out in-depth cooperation from creation to shooting, early stage to late stage. The documentary "World Heritage walk" has made many innovations in shooting. The film not only uses 4K technology, but also adopts a unique shooting technique - first person documentary, which comprehensively shows the external visual charm and internal cultural value of world heritage. Because the lens is always in the perspective of the protagonist, coupled with the high resolution and broad vision brought by 4K, even TV viewers will have a VR like experience, which greatly improves the audience's sense of immersion and substitution. The traditional shooting methods of landscape culture documentaries generally only objectively present the style of a place, and the emotional content is described by narration. On the basis of taking a subjective perspective, the world heritage walk promotes story telling and emotional expression by integrating characters. Each episode of the program sets up a pair of male and female protagonists -- the husband and wife of Lijiang chapter, the brother and sister of Gulangyu chapter, and the mother and son of Hangzhou chapter. These basic character relationships existing in daily life and the common human emotions embodied in them, break through regional limitations, transcend cultural differences, and obtain the consensus and resonance of the audience under different cultural backgrounds. It is rare in the industry to integrate stories into landscape culture documentaries. "World Heritage walk" does not first shoot materials, then add characters and stories, but carefully unfolds the context of characters and stories at the beginning of creation. For example, there is a detail in Lijiang that the couple came to the foot of Yulong Snow Mountain, but they couldn't see the top of the mountain because of the weather. If it is a traditional documentary creation, you can wait until the sunny day to shoot the most perfect material, so as to realize the function of showing the whole landscape for the audience. However, this film does not stick to the function, but uses the picture of clouds covering the top of the mountain to take care of the narrator's story, boost the growth of the characters, and let the audience find that the Yulong Snow Mountain covered by clouds has another beauty, and recognize the other side of the scenery. Before broadcasting in China, NHK's 4K channel and BS boutique channel have broadcast the Japanese version of World Heritage walk for many times, which has been widely welcomed by local audiences. Many Japanese audiences yearn for and have a strong interest in these world heritage sites in China. NHK team director Kitagawa Hui said that the film can gain such high popularity in Japan, which proves that this international cooperation, whether in cooperation mode or program form, is a successful attempt and expands the extension space of the documentary. Liang Hong, deputy director of the film and television drama documentary center of China Central Radio and television, said that the world heritage walk is a breakthrough and innovation, and hopes to continue to deepen international cooperation and create high-quality programs in the future. Yitian Yi, producer of NHK's chief editor's office, said that "World Heritage walk" is different from the program form of the two traditional documentaries, bringing fresh viewing experience to the audience, and looks forward to continuing cooperative shooting with China and exploring more cooperation modes. It is reported that in addition to the three episodes broadcast on NHK in Japan and CCTV record channel, the Chinese and Japanese teams will continue to cooperate to shoot and produce two new episodes of the series by using higher standard 8K technology.
