Since the founding of new China, China has organized two national collection and investigation of crop and livestock and poultry germplasm resources, but more than 30 years and 10 years have passed, and no national investigation of aquatic germplasm resources has been carried out so far. Agricultural germplasm resources are always in dynamic change in species, quantity and regional distribution, especially industrialization, urbanization and climate change. Under the new situation, carrying out the national general survey of agricultural germplasm resources has become an urgent task to realize the self-reliance and self-improvement of seed industry science and technology and the independent control of seed sources. It is understood that up to now, the general survey and collection of crop germplasm resources have been completed in 2323 counties (cities, districts, flags and regiments), the general survey coverage of administrative villages in livestock and poultry has reached 97.6%, and the general survey coverage of aquatic products has exceeded 95%. Through the general survey, a large number of new resources were found, 20800 crop germplasm resources were newly collected, 18 livestock and poultry genetic resources were newly discovered and identified, and more than 30000 aquaculture germplasm resources were newly collected. At the same time, a number of rare resources have been rescued and protected. Endangered species such as Zhongshan duck and Shanghai buffalo have been rediscovered and properly protected in this census.
