Road stone on the plateau Sky Road

A train into Tibet sped past in the pipe section of Seni District, Naqu City, Qinghai Tibet railway. The road guard militia pingcuo Zaxi and the team members slowly put down their right arms, rubbed their red ears, and walked to the next patrol point. The militia are on patrol. Photo by Wang Hao In late autumn, Qiangtang grassland with an altitude of 4600 meters has entered winter ahead of schedule. Looking up, sporadic broken snow mixed with barren grass, a sense of desolation arises spontaneously. In the eyes of pingcuo Zaxi, everything here is familiar and cordial. After 13 years of wind and snow, he has been patrolling this grassland since he retired from the army. His face is tanned by ultraviolet rays, his hands are covered with calluses, and his joints are swollen and deformed. In his early 30s, he looks much older than his peers. Along the way, his eyes seemed to be always looking for something. This is an "occupational disease" he developed a few years ago. One day in August 2016, with the afterglow of the sunset, pingcuozaxi and the team members set foot on the patrol road. The wind roared past, rolling up dust and fine sand. Suddenly, a figure on the track made his heart tremble. Pingcuozhaxi shouted as he ran: "come down! Come down!" at that time, the wind was too strong. The wind overshadowed the cry. The figure did not respond and continued to run back and forth on the railway track. "If something happens, it's terrible!" he ran step by step, regardless of the wind and sand poured into his mouth. Suddenly, a steam whistle came from the distance, and the train came from far to near. What makes people worried is that the figure sat on the track. "Danger, come down!" he shouted at the top of his voice, crossed the guardrail and rushed to the rail, pushing away the people on the rail. At this time, the train beside them roared like bullets, and the air waves seemed to suck them in. He felt a palpitation and his legs trembled uncontrollably. After the mood calmed down, he and the team members escorted the woman home safely by asking the local herdsmen. Since then, he has developed a habit of always looking into the distance and beware of uncertainties when patrolling. Later, they learned that the woman was suffering from serious mental illness and was a famous poor household in the village. Since then, he and his team members often went to her house to clean, repair the house and store forage in their spare time. For more than 4700 days and nights, every bridge, culvert and base station in the pipeline section of Seni district has left a flat footprint since the day when he retired from the army and joined the road protection team. The patrol day after day and the persistence year after year made him know the road protection work like the back of his hand. He knew which pipe section had grassland nearby, which pipe section had frequent damage to the railway guardrail, and which pipe section often had tourists taking photos. From soldiers to militia, the role is changing, and the background of loyalty remains unchanged. Pingcuozhaxi and the team members are like road stones that are not afraid of wind and snow, which are deeply rooted along the railway. Every winter, it is the time when the task of the road guard militia is the heaviest. In winter in Naqu, the lowest air temperature can reach minus 38 ℃, and there are often dangerous situations such as snow and ice on the road. In order to ensure the normal operation of the train, the military and local authorities jointly strengthened patrols, organized five mobile patrol units, and insisted on patrolling the responsible section of the road three times a day. At the same time, temporary duty points shall be added in important sections, and 24-hour uninterrupted patrol shall be carried out by taking turns. The night is getting thicker and thicker in the silent snow. The road guard militia appears at each duty point along the railway, and the figure is getting farther and farther (Wang Jiang, Huang Shijie) (outlook new era)
