Hong Kong will co host the 2nd Global Shipping Trade Summit with the International Chamber of Shipping

On the 12th, the Secretary for Transport and Logistics of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, Chen Meibao, met with the Secretary General of the International Chamber of Shipping, Guy Platten, and the incoming Secretary General, Thomas Cazakos, to confirm that the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government and the International Chamber of Shipping will jointly host the second Global Shipping Trade Summit during the "Hong Kong Maritime Week" in November this year. Chen Meibao stated that the SAR government attaches great importance to the close partnership with the International Chamber of Shipping and the global maritime industry. By jointly organizing the second summit with the International Chamber of Shipping, we look forward to further reflecting our shared vision, establishing an interconnected, efficient and stable maritime ecosystem, and promoting the common interests of the global shipping industry. Guy Platten stated that hosting a summit in Hong Kong, one of the world's major trading hubs, bringing together industry leaders and policy makers, will provide an ideal platform for exploring the advantages and opportunities of global trade. He looks forward to working together with the SAR government to add value to the Global Shipping Trade Summit and deepen global understanding. On the same day, a shipping dialogue and exchange meeting was also held, where Guy Platten and Thomas Cazakos had in-depth exchanges with members of the Hong Kong Shipowners' Association on multiple issues of concern to the shipping industry. The event attracted over 130 professionals in the shipping industry, including ship owners, ship operators, and experts. The first Global Shipping Trade Summit will be held during the Hong Kong Maritime Week in November 2024, bringing together government officials, leaders of international organizations, and industry professionals from multiple countries. The summit aims to promote dialogue, focus on key issues facing the global trade and shipping industry, and explore innovative solutions to address industry challenges. (New Society)
