Standardize hidden door handles, prioritize safety in technological aesthetics

According to Xinhua News Agency, from May 8th to June 7th, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology publicly solicited opinions on the mandatory national standard revision plan for "Safety Technical Requirements for Car Door Handle", proposing regulations on the layout, marking, safety functions, structural strength, etc. of electric and hidden door handles, which has attracted social attention. In recent years, the automotive industry has sparked a wave of electrification and intelligence transformation. Hidden door handles, with their unique design and technological sense, have become the "new favorite" of many car companies to enhance product recognition and high-end feel. This type of door handle is integrated with the vehicle body, which can reduce the drag coefficient, thereby reducing fuel consumption and increasing the range of electric vehicles. It has also been favored by many car owners. However, in the application process, hidden door handles expose many hidden dangers that cannot be ignored, seriously threatening the safety of drivers and passengers. Firstly, the hidden handles of some car models lack sufficient strength and are prone to damage when subjected to external impacts, resulting in the doors not being able to open properly. In extreme weather conditions, such as winter in the north, it is not uncommon for hidden door handles to freeze, and car owners often need to spend a lot of time and effort thawing, seriously affecting the user experience. In terms of control logic, once a vehicle encounters accidents such as collisions or fires, causing power outages, the electric exterior door handles and interior door handles are prone to failure, increasing the difficulty of rescue and escape. At the same time, hidden door handles are usually concealed without obvious signs. In emergency situations, whether it is self rescue by occupants or external rescue personnel, it is difficult to quickly and accurately identify the operation, delaying valuable rescue opportunities. In addition, its complex structure and numerous electronic components result in a high failure rate and significantly increased maintenance costs. Previously, in multiple traffic accidents, the hidden door handles fell off their chains at critical moments, ultimately leading to tragedies and raising public questions about their safety. These painful cases warn us that pursuing the beauty and technological sense of car appearance must not be at the expense of safety. This time, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology took decisive action to rectify the situation, which can be said to hit the nail on the head and be timely. The mandatory national standard proposed by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology establishes rules for the design of hidden door handles from multiple dimensions. For example, it is required to add mechanical or power-off protection mechanisms to ensure that the car door system can still be opened in the event of power outages, collisions, and other accidents, ensuring smooth rescue and escape routes; Standardize the safety signs for concealed door handles and emergency door handles, making them clear and visible, and reducing the difficulty of passengers escaping in emergency situations; Clarify the structural strength requirements for door handles to prevent the loss of function of the door lock control mechanism in the event of an accident. These regulations will effectively fill the gap in current safety standards for hidden door handles, provide clear guidance for car manufacturers' design and production, and effectively improve the safety performance of automobiles. For car companies, they should actively respond to the call of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, integrate safety concepts into the entire process of product design, research and development, and production, truly put people first, and make technology the guardian of life. We hope that under the new national standards and regulations, hidden door handles can find the best balance between technology and safety, and open the "life passage" instead of locking the "door of life" in critical moments.
