On the 7th, Sun Yuhan, the Secretary for Labour and Welfare of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, stated that in the past two years, Hong Kong has received over 53000 applications for the "Mainland Talents Scheme", of which nearly 90% have been approved. Sun Yuhan made the above statement when answering questions from members of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Legislative Council. He said that in the past two years, the number of approved and rejected applications received under the "Mainland Talent Import Scheme" was about 47000 and 600 respectively, with a pass rate of about 89%. As for the applications received through the 'General Employment Policy', there were over 67000, with nearly 63000 approved and 1000 rejected applications, respectively. The "General Employment Policy" and "Mainland Talent Import Scheme" of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government are measures formulated to attract Chinese citizens living overseas and mainland Chinese talents, respectively, in order to attract talents to Hong Kong and meet its development needs. Sun Yuhan revealed that about 46% of the applications for the "Mainland Talent Import Plan" were approved for short-term positions, while long-term positions accounted for about 54% of the approved applications. About 70% of the approved applications for the "General Employment Policy" are short-term positions with an employment period of less than 12 months, while the remaining 30% are long-term positions with an employment period of 12 months or more. In addition, among those who have been approved to come to Hong Kong for long-term positions under the "General Employment Policy" in the past two years, the largest number are engaged in the tourism industry, followed by academic research and education, as well as financial services. Under the 'Mainland Talent Import Scheme', the most approved candidates for long-term positions in Hong Kong are those engaged in business and trade, followed by financial services, academic research, and education. The monthly income of these approved talents ranges from HKD 20000 to HKD 39999, followed by HKD 40000 to HKD 79999. (New Society)
