China hopes that the international community can create favorable conditions for promoting a political resolution to the Ukrainian crisis
2025-04-09
On April 8th, Geng Shuang, Charg é d'affaires ad interim of the Chinese Permanent Mission to the United Nations, stated that the contradictions involved in the Ukrainian crisis are complex, and there is still a considerable gap in the positions and proposals of all parties on a series of key issues. Restoring peace is still a long way to go. China hopes that the international community will issue more rational voices for ceasefire, cessation of war, and promotion of peace talks, in order to create a positive atmosphere and favorable conditions for promoting the political resolution of the crisis. Geng Shuang said during the Security Council's consideration of the humanitarian issue in Ukraine that the current Ukrainian issue is entering a critical moment of negotiation and resolution. Although the situation on the battlefield remains complex, the momentum of peace talks has emerged and the window of peace is opening. China welcomes the recent negotiations between Russia, the United States, and Ukraine, and encourages all efforts towards peace. The war occurred on the European continent, and of course, Europe should play a role in promoting peace. China supports all parties and stakeholders to participate in the peace talks process, resolve the root causes of the crisis, and reach a fair, lasting, binding peace agreement that is accepted by all parties. Geng Shuang said that the Ukrainian crisis has been dragging on until now, and the war has not stopped, causing great suffering to ordinary people. Under no circumstances should civilians and civilian infrastructure be targets of attack. The parties to the conflict should strictly abide by international humanitarian law and make every effort to protect the safety of civilians and civilian infrastructure. The international community and humanitarian organizations should make every effort to carry out humanitarian aid on the basis of adhering to the principles of humanity, neutrality, impartiality, and independence.
