Hong Kong SAR donates over 20 tons of relief supplies to Myanmar

Myanmar recently experienced a 7.9-magnitude earthquake. The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government announced on the 3rd that it has mobilized emergency relief supplies weighing over 20 tons at full speed to meet the urgent needs of the disaster stricken areas. It is reported that this batch of rescue supplies includes food, drinking water, medical kits, and temporary shelter materials, some of which are donated by enthusiastic individuals in society. At present, the materials have been handed over to the Consul General of Myanmar in Hong Kong and arrangements have been made for shipment to the local area. During a donation ceremony at Hong Kong International Airport on the same day, the Chief Secretary for Administration of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Chen Guoji, stated that the SAR government fully supports the earthquake relief and relief work in Myanmar. These relief supplies carry support and blessings for the disaster stricken areas in Myanmar, and sincerely hope that the local people can overcome difficulties and resume normal life as soon as possible. On the morning of that day, Hong Kong Chief Executive Li Jiachao met with the Consul General of Myanmar in Hong Kong and sent a letter of condolence. Li Jiachao mentioned that the SAR rescue team and the national rescue team recently successfully rescued one survivor, which is inspiring and uplifting. The SAR rescue team will continue to race against time and do their best to carry out search and rescue work in the disaster area. The Consul General of Myanmar in Hong Kong sent a thank-you letter to Li Jiachao, thanking Myanmar's organizations in Hong Kong for their support work. It is reported that the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government has previously launched a disaster relief fund mechanism, closely contacted multiple local rescue organizations in Hong Kong, and has approved funding applications totaling approximately HKD 30 million from seven organizations in principle.
