Remembering Traditional Words and Cultivating Virtue | Being a Communist Party Member "Visible at a Glance"
2025-04-03
In his personal memoirs, the founding general Shaw Ke described the Communist Party members as follows: "In the war years, it can be seen at a glance who is not a Communist. Those who are brave in battle, not afraid of hardship or death, must be members." Now, the smoke of war has dissipated, and in the peaceful years, the progressiveness nature of party members is more reflected in ordinary times. Party members and cadres can only become visible Communist Party members at a glance if they take the lead in enduring hardships and dedicating themselves, tackling difficulties and setting an example as pioneers, standing up at critical moments and escaping danger. To be a visible Communist Party member, one must take the lead in enduring hardships and dedicating oneself. Comrade Peng Dehuai once said, "The only 'privilege' that the Party has given me is to take the lead in enduring hardships." The Party Constitution clearly stipulates that Communist Party members must 'uphold the interests of the Party and the people above all else, submit their personal interests to the interests of the Party and the people, endure hardships before enjoying them.'. The Code of Integrity and Self discipline of the CPC also emphasizes that Party members should "adhere to the principle of bearing hardships first, enjoying later, and being willing to contribute". During Comrade Jiao Yulu's work in Lankao, Henan, when the sandstorm was at its peak, he took the lead in checking the wind and exploring the flowing sand; During the heavy rainstorm, he took the lead in the waist deep flood to observe the water potential. This tells us that in order to become a visible Communist Party member, we must not fear hardship, not speak of hardship, cultivate a sense of pride and joy in hardship, take the lead in enduring hardship, practical work, dedication, and sacrifice in our work. To be a Communist Party member who can be seen at a glance, one must stand up at critical moments. Imagine, in the absence of understanding someone, if we see them being perfunctory in their work, having low standards, being timid and always "falling off the chain" at critical moments, then we would think that this is not what a Communist Party member should be like. On the contrary, if he always volunteered for tasks and never shirked responsibility, he would naturally recognize from the bottom of his heart that he meets the standards of a Communist Party member. When the danger of a blowout occurred, "Iron Man" Wang Jinxi disregarded his physical injuries and jumped into the mud pit without hesitation. He used his body to stir the mud, cleaned the blocked water pump mouth, and saved the oil well and drilling rig. Through practical actions, he demonstrated the Communist Party member's spirit of responsibility of "not seeking refuge and not evading responsibility". This tells us that in the face of difficult "hard bones" in work tasks, only with the courage to "know that there are tigers in the mountains, and lean towards the tiger mountains", the perseverance to "open the way in the mountains and build bridges in the water", the courage to endure hardships, the courage to take on responsibilities, and being a pioneer and setting an example everywhere, can we become a Communist Party member that is "visible at a glance". To be a Communist Party member who can be seen at a glance, one must be able to escape in critical moments. The more critical the situation is, the more it can test the loyalty and responsibility of Communist Party members. In the era of revolutionary war, Communist Party members did not wear Party membership badges, but the eyes of the masses were sharp. "Those who are braver than others and charge forward in battle are definitely Communist Party members" and "those who compete for tasks and seize the main attack are definitely Party members". Now, although far away from the smoke of war, various tests and temptations are everywhere. For example, facing natural disasters, sudden public safety incidents, etc. When the safety of people's lives and property is seriously threatened, party members and cadres must step forward and charge forward. A Communist Party member who always cares about the people, puts the interests of the people first, disregards personal safety in critical moments, and is able to stand up. Such a Communist Party member can also be seen at a glance and firmly supported by the people. (New Society)
