Hong Kong Zhuhai Macau Bridge achieves new highs in passenger and traffic flow in the first quarter
2025-04-02
In the first quarter of this year, the cumulative passenger and vehicular traffic entering and exiting the Zhuhai Highway Port via the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macao Bridge exceeded 7.5 million and 1.56 million respectively, an increase of 23% and 31% year-on-year. Both data set new highs for the same period since the official opening of the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macao Bridge. This was learned by reporters from the Zhuhai Border Inspection Station on the 31st. It is reported that the rapidly growing "northbound" passenger flow from Hong Kong and Macau has become the main factor driving the increase in port traffic. As of March 31st, the number of single license plate drivers from Hong Kong and Macau who have been registered by border inspection has exceeded 170000, and the number of registered vehicles has exceeded 140000. In the first quarter of this year, the number of single license plate vehicles from Hong Kong and Macao inspected at the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macao Bridge border checkpoint reached 880000, an increase of 34% year-on-year. This is the first time since the implementation of the "Australian vehicle northward" and "Hong Kong vehicle northward" policies in 2023 that the number of single license plate vehicles has exceeded 800000 in a single quarter. Driven by the "northbound" single license plate vehicles, the number of Hong Kong and Macao residents entering and exiting through ports has seen a rapid increase. In the first three months of this year, border inspection departments inspected over 4.1 million Hong Kong and Macao residents, accounting for 54.6% of the total passenger flow at ports. The person in charge of the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macao Bridge border inspection station stated that the demand for cross-border travel continues to rise, especially during weekends and holidays. During this year's Spring Festival, there were over 1 million inbound and outbound passengers and over 160000 vehicles passing through ports, reaching a historical high for the same period. On February 1st, the daily inbound and outbound passenger flow at the port exceeded 170000 for the first time, and the traffic flow reached 25000 vehicles, both breaking the historical record for the highest daily flow. The number of "individual tourism" cities from mainland China to Hong Kong and Macau continues to expand, and the "one week travel" policy for tourism from Zhuhai to Macau has been implemented. The "one bridge connecting three places" tourism route built around the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macau Bridge is widely favored. According to the statistics from the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macao Bridge border checkpoint, in the first quarter of this year, the number of mainland tourists holding Hong Kong and Macao tourist visas passing through the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macao Bridge reached 1.5 million, an increase of 14% compared to the same period last year. Outbound tourism continues to heat up, while inbound tourism is equally popular. In the first quarter of this year, the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macao Bridge border checkpoint inspected over 120000 foreign tourists, a year-on-year increase of 22%, setting a new historical high. Among them, over 20000 foreign tourists entered the country without a visa, a year-on-year increase of 122%. It is reported that in the face of new changes and situations in passenger and traffic flow at the port, the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macao Bridge Border Inspection Station continues to promote the upgrading of port software and hardware, and implements measures such as upgrading the "one-stop" vehicle inspection system, transforming the "cargo to passenger" channel, and applying new inspection equipment to continuously improve port traffic efficiency through technological empowerment.
