After the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip officially came into effect, the first batch of aid convoys from the United Nations World Food Programme entered the Gaza Strip on the 19th. According to the World Food Programme, aid vehicles entered Gaza through the Kerem Shalom border crossing in the south and the Zikim border crossing in the north. At least 150 aid trucks loaded with food will be dispatched into Gaza every day, and transportation support will be provided to partners. Cindy McCain, Executive Director of the United Nations World Food Programme, said that the entry of aid trucks into Gaza is an important beginning. Two million people have long been lacking in food and basic supplies, and all border crossings need to be open and operate efficiently, while ensuring that humanitarian aid teams can move freely and safely in Gaza. At present, the grain reserves placed by the World Food Programme at the border can meet the needs of over one million people for three months. The World Food Programme will urgently provide food aid to various parts of Gaza, including direct distribution of wheat flour, food packages, replenishment of bakery stocks, provision of nutritional supplements for malnourished children, and distribution of electronic vouchers and cash to assisted families, while helping to restore local food production. The World Food Programme urges all parties to ensure the safe transportation and distribution of aid during the ceasefire period, and to support the comprehensive and sustainable recovery of Gaza to meet the urgent needs of the people in the coming weeks.
