On the 20th, at the third meeting of the 13th Gansu Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, He Pingping, a member of the Gansu Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference residing in Macau, donated 50000 yuan to Minqin County, Gansu Province on behalf of Peizheng Middle School in Macau for local desertification prevention and control. As of now, teachers and students in Macau have donated nearly one million yuan to Minqin. On behalf of Principal Gao Jinhui of Pui Ching Middle School in Macau, He Pingping participated in the donation ceremony and delivered a speech, stating that after learning about the difficulties and losses caused by the sandstorm to the lives of the people and crops in Minqin, Pui Ching Middle School has decided to launch an annual donation campaign. This carries the love of the teachers and students of Peizheng Middle School for Minqin, hoping to help the local construction of sand prevention projects and protect their homes. It is reported that teachers and students from schools such as Pui Ching Middle School in Macau and Jingping School in Macau have donated to Minqin, Gansu for several consecutive years to prevent and control desertification. This charitable act will continue to be passed down. Minqin County in Gansu Province is located in the northeast of the Hexi Corridor, surrounded by the Badain Jaran and Tengger deserts to the east, west, and north. It is an important barrier for protecting the ecological security of the Hexi Corridor and even the northwest region. In recent years, the local area has adhered to the main direction of sand prevention and control, insisting on the integrated protection and systematic management of mountains, waters, forests, fields, lakes, grasses, and sands. The barren areas such as Qingtu Lake, Laohukou, and Longwang Temple, which were once flooded with flowing sand, have gradually become ecological barriers for the emergence of vitality. As of now, Minqin County has planted 1.1 million acres of sand and sealed off 3.25 million acres of natural sand vegetation, built over 300 kilometers of protective forest belts, and achieved a forest coverage rate of 18.28% and grassland vegetation coverage rate of 18.65%. The county has achieved a transformation from "sand entering and people retreating" to "green entering and sand retreating". (New Society)
