2025-01-20

Renowned conductor Daniel Hardin led the orchestra for the 2025 Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area International Youth Music Week and made an appearance at the Guangzhou Xinghai Music Hall on the evening of the 16th. As one of the important events of this music week, they interpreted their love for the culture of the Greater Bay Area with youthful performances. This music week gathers many masters in the music industry and young music talents from various countries. The opening song of the evening was "Picking up the Light" composed by Chinese young composer Wang Peicheng. The music vividly showcases the personality traits and cultural spirit of Lingnan and Bay Area people, who are open, confident, and pragmatic. In addition, tenor singer Ian Bosterich took the stage to perform Benjamin Britten's Nocturne. The Music Week is hosted by the Guangdong Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, jointly organized by the Shenzhen Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television, Tourism and Sports (Shenzhen series of activities), and jointly organized by the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra, Guangdong Xinghai Music Hall, Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, and Macao Orchestra. During the Music Week from January 10th to 19th, multiple performances, master classes, and outreach activities will be held in Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hong Kong, and other places. This music week is soliciting new works from around the world with the designated element of "Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area". A total of 57 submissions have been received, including 49 submissions from domestic young composers (including 16 submissions within the Greater Bay Area) and 8 submissions from foreign young composers. After screening, two works, "Spring Snow at Meiguan" and "Picking up Light," were selected to appear as overtures in this year's music cycle. From the front stage to the back stage, this project reflects the close connection and seamless cooperation between major renowned art institutions in the Bay Area Chen Qing, director of the Music Week Executive Committee and conductor of the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra, said.
