On the 7th, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued a notice on the pilot work of 10 gigabit optical network, clarifying that by the end of 2025, in cities and regions with conditions and foundations, focusing on key scenarios such as residential areas, factories, and industrial parks, 10 gigabit optical network pilot work will be carried out. 10G optical network is the upgrade and evolution direction of the next generation optical network, and an important component of the new information infrastructure. At present, new businesses and applications are constantly emerging, which puts forward the demand for larger bandwidth, lower latency, and higher reliability in optical networks. It is urgent to accelerate the evolution of gigabit optical networks to ten gigabit optical networks. The notice specifies that in key scenarios such as residential areas, factories, and industrial parks, pilot projects for 10 gigabit optical networks will be carried out to achieve the deployment and application of technologies such as 50G-PON (Passive Optical Network) ultra wide optical access, FTTH (Fiber to the Home)/FTTR (Fiber to the Room) and 7th generation wireless local area network collaboration, high-speed and high-capacity optical transmission, and the integration of optical networks and artificial intelligence. The relevant person in charge of the Information and Communication Development Department of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said that the pilot work will be taken as the driving force, and various forces in the industry will be coordinated to promote the construction of a mature industrial chain and a complete industrial system for 10 gigabit optical networks, and orderly guide the gradual deployment and application of 10 gigabit optical networks from technical pilot projects.
