The Transport Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region announced on the 2nd that the governments of Guangdong and Hong Kong have agreed to increase the number of applications for "Hong Kong vehicles heading north" from 400 to 500 per working day, in order to better meet the demand for new and renewal applications. A spokesperson for the Transport Department stated that the eligibility criteria, procedures, and lottery arrangements for the "Hong Kong Vehicles Northbound" program will remain unchanged. The arrangement of optimizing renewal applications from May 2024 will also be continued, and eligible individuals can submit renewal applications without participating in the computer lottery. In addition, the governments of Guangdong and Hong Kong will continue to monitor the operation of "Hong Kong cars heading north" and closely contact relevant departments to timely review and optimize arrangements. The "Hong Kong Car Northbound" policy will be officially implemented from July 1, 2023, further strengthening the connectivity of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area. According to statistics from the Transport and Logistics Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, on the first anniversary of the implementation of the policy, over 60000 single license private cars in Hong Kong have completed their travel applications via the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macao Bridge. According to statistics from the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macao Bridge border checkpoint, from the implementation of the policy until the afternoon of July 7, 2024, the number of Hong Kong single license plate vehicles entering and exiting through the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macao Bridge has exceeded one million.
