The New Year's Opera Gala for 2025 was held at the National Centre for the Performing Arts on the 30th evening. Party and state leaders including Xi Jinping, Li Qiang, Zhao Leji, Wang Huning, Cai Qi, Ding Xuexiang, Li Xi and Han Zheng watched the performance together with people from all walks of life in the capital to welcome the arrival of the New Year.

The National Centre for the Performing Arts was brightly lit in the night, and the atmosphere inside the theater was lively. At around 7:45 p.m., Xi Jinping and other Party and state leaders arrived at the gala site. They cordially shook hands with representatives of opera artists who came to watch the performance and exchanged greetings with them. Warm applause then rang out throughout the venue.

With the sounds of strings and musical instruments, the new year was welcomed, and with ancient tunes and new melodies, a splendid chapter was sung. The cheerful and festive instrumental performance "A Garden Full of Flowers Welcoming the Spring Festival" kicked off the whole gala. "The Display of Different Schools of Peking Opera", through a smooth and competitive medley, demonstrated the prosperity of Peking Opera art. Excerpts from Peking Opera "Qin Xianglian", Kunqu Opera "The Romance of the Western Chamber", Pingju Opera "Liu Qiao'er", Huangmei Opera "The Heavenly Maid and the Mortal" and other operas each had their own unique charm, leading the audience to experience the profound charm of outstanding traditional art from classic stories. Excerpts from Peking Opera "The Reed Marshes · Outwitting the Enemy" and "Women Generals of the Yang Family" vividly demonstrated the patriotism and family affection of heroic figures. Peking Opera "Bronze Square Vessel · No More Separation" and "Mountain Flowers in Full Bloom - Excerpts from Operas in Ethnic Minority Areas" used ancient opera genres to perform modern themes, showing vivid contemporary flavor and colorful ethnic customs. The children's performances of Kunqu and Peking Opera were well-regulated in every move, presenting the delightful scene that the inheritance of opera art has promising successors. The high-spirited and surging opera song "Echoes of the Spring and Autumn Period" pushed the atmosphere of the gala to a climax, singing out the mission and pursuit of the vast number of literary and art workers to adhere to the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Culture, strive to promote the prosperity and development of literary and art undertakings in the new era, and devote themselves to building China into a socialist cultural powerhouse. The superb performances of the artists won rounds of cheers and warm applause from the whole audience.

Throughout the entire gala, different opera genres were brilliant, and classic operas and newly created excellent works each had their own characteristics, demonstrating the vibrant and prosperous scene of Chinese operas and singing an inspiring song of forging ahead in unity towards the dream.
