Luban Workshop brings Chinese vocational education into SCO countries
2024-12-20
As a "national business card" for China's vocational education to go global, currently, Luban Workshop has taken root and blossomed in multiple SCO countries. From providing a "technical station" for teacher training and practical training venues to comprehensively creating an international model for vocational education in China, Luban Workshop not only delivers technical skills that are in line with local economic development needs to partner countries, but also promotes and applies China's vocational education standards, equipment, and programs in SCO countries. I have never seen such a great place! Here are all the instruments needed to study geodesy, and they all meet the latest standards, "said Bozorzoda, a student at Tajikistan University of Technology. He recalled the scene of his first practical training class at the Luban Workshop." The teacher at the workshop asked us to use a total station to take photos and measure distances, but I felt that I definitely couldn't do it because I had never used such equipment before. But the teacher insisted on me and my classmates trying it out, and in the end, I succeeded! "Tajikistan Luban Workshop is the first Luban Workshop in Central Asia, founded by Tianjin Urban Construction Management Vocational and Technical College and Tajikistan University of Technology in March 2022. Cooperative construction, put into use in November of the same year. The workshop has a building area of 1138 square meters and covers 9 teaching and research rooms and 13 majors, including the Department of Civil Engineering and Architecture at Ta Tech University. Currently, about 1500 students have received training. We are particularly proud to have settled in Luban Workshop Thanks to the construction of the workshop and the training of experts from Tianjin, the teachers and students of Tajikistan Technical University can access and master a large number of modern equipment that has not yet been promoted in Central Asia, "said Shahriyol, Vice President of Tajikistan Technical University." This improves the quality of education in our university and helps us cultivate talents who can adapt to the requirements of the labor market. "The Luban Workshop in Kazakhstan was put into trial operation on December 9, 2023. After two months of trial operation at the Luban Workshop, Kazakh President Tokayev made a special trip to inspect. During the inspection process, Tokayev specifically expressed gratitude in Chinese for the efforts of Chinese universities, stating that the more Luban workshops like this in Kazakhstan, the better, and that Luban workshops mark a further deepening of cooperation between the two sides. Currently, in addition to the Luban workshops in Tajikistan and Kazakhstan, the Luban workshop in Uzbekistan was successfully established last year, and the construction of the Luban workshop in Kyrgyzstan is also progressing in an orderly manner. As a "technology hub" that promotes the common development of China and SCO countries, Luban Workshop plays an important role in cultivating high-quality technical talents and solving employment problems in Central Asian countries. In addition to Central Asian countries, the Luban workshops in other SCO countries are also very eye-catching. The Luban Workshop, located at the Chennai Institute of Technology in India, is a successful example of cooperation between China and India, two member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, in the field of vocational education. The Luban Workshop is very prominent at the Chennai Institute of Technology in India, with six training classrooms on the first floor of the main teaching building, filled with Chinese elements. Chennai Institute of Technology is a technical education engineering college approved by the Indian Ministry of Education, with over 3000 students and 300 teachers. The reputation of Chennai Institute of Technology is constantly improving in cooperation with vocational education in China. Sri Ram Patasalati, the president of Chennai Institute of Technology, introduced that since the end of 2017, many teachers and students have benefited from the Luban Workshop project to study and train in Tianjin, greatly improving the vocational education level of the school. Teachers have experienced and felt many things during their training in China, such as practical and theoretical courses. After returning to India, they started teaching students and also started developing courses on emerging technologies themselves. Our students have benefited greatly from it, and many of them have entered large companies to start successful careers. At the end of January this year, the Luban Workshop jointly built by Heilongjiang Agricultural Engineering Vocational College and Ussuriysk Agricultural and Industrial College in Russia was unveiled. Dubovitsky, the Minister of Vocational Education and Employment for Residents of Primorsky Krai in Russia, said, "We hope to cultivate more modern agricultural talents through exchanges and exchanges between the two sides." Subsequently, several teachers from vocational education colleges in Russia went to Harbin to study the use of Chinese agricultural machinery. After completing the training, they returned to Ussuriysk Agricultural and Industrial College in Russia and taught more than 1000 Russian students there. Once the students' skills meet the standards, they can work in large agricultural enterprises in the local area. In September of this year, the Uzbekistan Luban Workshop was unveiled at Tianjin Maritime Vocational College to cultivate local talents and technical strength. This is the 24th Luban Workshop built by Tianjin overseas, adopting the "Engineering Practice Innovation Project (EPIP)" teaching mode. The EPIP teaching model is an innovative and promoted Chinese vocational education teaching model based on Tianjin vocational education teaching and reform experience. It guides students through practical engineering projects, cultivates practical innovation abilities, and shortens the adjustment period for graduates to enter enterprises. Using the Luban Workshop as a platform, Tianjin promotes the teaching mode of Chinese vocational education globally, establishes EPIP research centers in 17 countries, and promotes the "going global" of advanced teaching equipment and high-quality teaching resources. Only by truly understanding the new demand for skilled talents in the world's development can more effective talent training programs be formulated. Yang Yan, Deputy Director of the Research and Promotion Center of Tianjin Luban Workshop, said that Luban Workshop has always adhered to the principle of "teaching people how to fish, and teaching people how to fish". It has trained a group of overseas professional teachers for the local area, developed "golden courses and textbooks", and created more than 100 international professional courses such as intelligent manufacturing, railway transportation, and traditional Chinese medicine. It has published 145 bilingual textbooks and developed 420 practical training manuals and loose leaf textbooks. Luban Workshop highlights the characteristics of 'education follows output, industry and education go hand in hand', and actively connects with overseas localization employment needs. Graduates from Luban Workshop are widely welcomed, and local, Chinese, and multinational enterprises come to Luban Workshop to find the talents they need Wang Weiyuan, representative of the project leader of Luban Workshop, deputy secretary of the Party Committee and president of Tianjin Mechanical and Electrical Vocational and Technical College, said that in the process of foreign technical cooperation, Chinese universities have made every effort to cultivate local talents and technical strength for the recipients, help them build infrastructure, lay a solid foundation for development, and better benefit relevant countries with high-quality vocational education resources, cultivating a group of international "Luban". Luban Workshop is an international public education resource and product rooted in the soil of Chinese culture, embodying the wisdom of Chinese vocational education, and serving the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind Lv Jingquan, Director of the Expert Committee for the Construction of Luban Workshop under the Chinese Ministry of Education, stated that the great success of Luban Workshop is attributed to various factors. Since entering the new era, China has made outstanding achievements in economic and social development, laying a solid foundation for the innovative development of vocational education and international exchange and cooperation in China. On a practical level, the "Five Construction Principles" that Luban Workshop has always adhered to have played an indispensable role: based on the principle of "equal cooperation", discussions on project cooperation methods, professional integration design, etc. have eliminated uncertainty in international education; The principle of prioritizing quality ensures the supply of advantageous majors, advantageous courses, excellent teachers, and preferred resources, ensuring high-quality education; The principle of 'strong ability and heavy technology' highlights the importance placed on technology application, skill training, and engineering practice, making Luban Workshop highly attractive; The principle of "integration of industry and education" runs through the entire process of cultivating technical and skilled talents, achieving the goal of school enterprise collaboration and cooperative education; The principle of adapting to local conditions enables Luban Workshop to meet local realities and needs within a unified framework of norms and standards, with great adaptability and vitality. Sharing China's vocational education experience and programs with the world: "Luban Workshop collaborates with partner countries, sister cities, and universities in vocational education, using methods such as co building workshops, academic education, and vocational education training to go abroad, crossing mountains and seas, sharing China's vocational education experience and programs with the world, promoting the dissemination of Chinese craftsmanship spirit and excellent traditional Chinese culture to the world, and becoming a 'national business card' for China's vocational and technical education 'going global'." Recently, Wang Weiyuan said at the "Understanding China" International Conference Forum. Entering the Luban Workshop in Tajikistan, what catches the eye is an introduction to Luban and the timeline of the workshop's establishment. There is a red Chinese knot hanging on the classroom wall, which is said to have been welded by Chinese teachers, symbolizing the towering friendship between China and Tajikistan like the Pamir Plateau. Li Qingbin, the Chinese leader of Tajikistan Luban Workshop and the Party Secretary of Tianjin Urban Construction Management Vocational and Technical College, said, "Luban Workshop not only strengthens the training of skilled and professional talents, providing urgently needed human resources support for economic and trade cooperation between the two sides, but also builds a bridge for people to people and civilization to learn from each other between China and Tajikistan." In the first teacher training of Tajikistan Luban Workshop, the advanced vocational education concept, exquisite professional skills, and selfless spirit of the Chinese teacher team were praised by Tajikistan teachers. Teacher Tafang optimized his teaching time in order to participate in the training. Some teachers voluntarily give up their lunch and holiday breaks and actively seek advice from Chinese teachers individually, requesting additional practice, which greatly inspires the Chinese teacher team. According to Li Qingbin, at the graduation ceremony of teacher training, Ta Tech University carefully prepared a thank-you letter signed by the president for the Chinese training teachers. Principal Daflatzoda personally presented flowers to each Chinese female teacher and put on hats with strong ethnic characteristics for each Chinese male teacher and member of the working group to Tajikistan, expressing his best wishes to his good partners and friends from China. In his training experience, Teacher Tafang wrote in Chinese characters he self studied overnight: "Thank you for being with us!" The influence of Luban Workshop is not limited to SCO countries. According to statistics, China has cooperated to build more than 30 Luban workshops in the three continents of Asia, Europe, and Africa, and has trained nearly 10000 students in academic education and implemented vocational education and training for over 31000 people. From Cairo in Egypt to Addis Ababa in Ethiopia, and then to Machakos in Kenya; From Ayutthaya in Thailand to Ponorogo in East Java Province, Indonesia, and then to Lahore in Punjab Province, Pakistan; From Setubal in Portugal to Chichester in the UK... the logo of the Luban Workshop, which blends in all directions, resembles a brilliant flower from the East, blooming brilliantly and becoming a beautiful scenery in cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries.
