The total output value of China's new materials industry is expected to exceed 8 trillion yuan by 2024
2024-12-18
On December 17th, it was learned from the press conference held by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology that the scale of China's new materials industry continues to grow. From January to November this year, the total output value of the new materials industry increased by more than 10% year-on-year, and it is expected to exceed 8 trillion yuan for the whole year, maintaining double-digit growth for 14 consecutive years. A large number of new materials, such as rare earth functional materials, advanced energy storage materials, and superhard materials, rank among the top in the world in terms of scale. As the industrial scale continues to grow, the strength of enterprises in the field of new materials continues to strengthen, and their innovation capabilities continue to improve. The relevant person in charge of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology introduced that the number of new material enterprises above designated size in China exceeds 20000, and a large number of new material specialized, refined, and new "little giant" enterprises have been cultivated. We have established more than 30 key platforms for new materials, including production application verification, testing and evaluation, and resource sharing. This year, we issued the "Guidelines for the Construction of New Material Pilot Platforms (2024-2027)", which has served 172000 enterprises and provided over 2000 critical material application verifications and 1 million testing and evaluation services. The new materials industry has pioneering and leading characteristics, especially the highly disruptive cutting-edge materials, which represent the direction and trend of the development of the new materials industry and will be applied to future industries such as manufacturing, information, and energy Zeng Kun, Deputy Director of the Materials Industry Research Institute of China Electronics Information Industry Development Research Institute, told reporters. He also stated that China still needs to make further efforts in the top-level design and planning of new materials, breakthroughs in key core technologies, resource/raw material and core equipment support, and upstream and downstream collaborative integration. The reporter learned that the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology will take various measures in the next step, focusing on filling gaps, lengthening gaps, and casting new gaps, to accelerate the growth of the new materials industry and build new growth engines. The above-mentioned person in charge stated that in accelerating breakthroughs in key technologies, we will strengthen collaborative innovation among industry, academia, research and application around key materials in key fields such as new generation information technology and aerospace equipment. In terms of enhancing the supply capacity of "shelf products", we will strengthen the iteration and upgrading of technological advantages and materials, enhance the core competitiveness of market advantages and materials, and proactively layout cutting-edge materials. In terms of continuously optimizing the innovation platform system, based on improving and enhancing the public service capabilities of existing platforms, we will organize and implement the second phase of the new material key platform project, promote the construction of new material big data centers, and accelerate the cultivation of a batch of new material pilot platforms. In terms of creating a favorable environment for industrial development, we will implement the insurance compensation policy for the first batch of new materials, strengthen the overall coordination of new material standards, and enhance cooperation between new material production and finance. It is worth noting that standards play a fundamental and leading role in the development of the raw material industry. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and four other departments recently jointly issued the "Action Plan for Leading the Optimization and Upgrading of the Raw Material Industry through Standard Upgrading (2025-2027)", which clearly states the need to strengthen the cultivation of new material product standards. Implement the "New Material Standard Innovation Project" and release and implement over 100 standards in the field of new materials by 2027. Zeng Kun stated that with the continuous improvement of the support system for the new materials industry, the development environment will be further optimized. In the future, it is necessary to actively promote group standards, industry standards, and national standards based on the development stage of new materials, accelerate the internationalization of new material standards, and actively participate in the formulation and revision of international standards. Promote the construction of new material pilot platforms, guide social capital to increase support for the transformation of new material technology achievements, and strive to create a favorable environment for industrial development.
