International violinist Yao Jue: Chinese traditional culture is the 'root' of Hong Kong musicians

2024-12-17

Although we play Western instruments, our 'roots' are traditional Chinese culture. Being at the center of cultural and artistic exchange between China and foreign countries, musicians in Hong Kong have been thinking about how to grasp their' roots' and bring them to the world, "said Yao Jue, artistic director of the Hong Kong String Orchestra and internationally renowned violin artist, on the 16th. That evening, the final note of the "Fragrant Flower Music Rhyme" concert played by the Hong Kong String Orchestra fell in Xi'an. After touring three mainland cities, Yao Jue was deeply impressed by the enthusiasm of mainland audiences for music. I hope the audience can feel the charm of Hong Kong music, the 'color' of the fusion of Chinese and Western cultures, and the unique characteristics of music that connects ancient and modern times, both in China and abroad. Yao Jue introduced that the band has done a lot of arrangement work for this purpose. At the concert venue, various works with different styles, such as "Fragrant Flowers Golden Melody Combo" adapted from the popular TV drama "Fragrant Flowers", "Echoes of Gu Jiahui's Golden Melody Combo" with Hong Kong charm, and "Serenade for Strings" by a Swedish composer, were staged in rotation. The performance was consistent with their previous performances in Chengdu and Kunming. The applause from the audience lasted for a long time that night, and the enthusiasm of the audience was high. Unlike the previous two performances, we collaborated with a local symphony orchestra for the Xi'an performance. The Hong Kong string orchestra has always hoped to adapt and innovate more ethnic music to bring to the audience. Xi'an has a long history and profound heritage, and this ancient capital has given me a lot of artistic inspiration Yao Jue said that he was interested in Qin Opera and was considering how to integrate it with other art forms and create new works, so as to bring Chinese traditional culture to the world. Yao Jue also noticed that the recently popular "balcony concert" has gained popularity among the people of Xi'an. Music originates from life and is closely related to it. It is particularly important to be able to showcase the connectivity between music and life in various places and ways. Yao Jue believes that the cultural landscape of a city will change with the ubiquitous artistic atmosphere. Whether in Chengdu, Kunming, or Xi'an, musicians in Hong Kong have drawn local cultural elements from them. These experiences are a 'seed' that may be integrated into their works in the future and grow around the world Yuan Jianuo, Director of the Economic and Trade Office of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government in Chengdu, said. Since last year, various types of cultural exchange activities between Shaanxi and Hong Kong have been held, including concerts, movie screenings, and cultural exhibitions. While Qin Opera, Northern Shaanxi folk songs and other Shaanxi featured cultures have deeply attracted Hong Kong people, the Hong Kong industry has also actively participated in cultural exchange activities to spread and promote Hong Kong featured culture and arts to all regions. We will continue to exchange and cooperate with Shaanxi to promote two-way travel between the two places Yuan Jianuo expressed the hope that this concert will provide a platform for outstanding talents from both regions to exchange ideas, continue to enhance the friendship between the two places, and look forward to both regions making contributions to inheriting the excellent traditional Chinese culture and telling the story of China well.
