The 2nd Portugal International Chinese Education Symposium was held

The second Portugal International Chinese Education Symposium, which lasted for two days, concluded on the 14th at the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria. Participants expressed their commitment to continue promoting high-quality development of Sino Portuguese education cooperation and cultural exchanges. The seminar was hosted by the Chinese Embassy in Portugal and attended by over a hundred Chinese and foreign deans of five Confucius Institutes in Portugal, as well as Chinese language teachers in Portugal. Chinese Ambassador to Portugal Zhao Bentang stated that international Chinese education is a language public product provided by China to the world, serving as a platform and carrier for China to integrate into the world and for the world to understand China. Learning each other's languages will enable the Chinese and Portuguese people to constantly overcome language barriers and cultural differences, understand and respect each other, reduce misunderstanding, enhance mutual trust, and promote the development of China Portugal friendly relations. Lourdes Andreno, representative of the School Directorate of the Portuguese Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation, stated that learning a foreign language is a way to understand and comprehend cultural individuality and diversity. The Portuguese side attaches great importance to the Chinese education program in public secondary schools and will further promote its development. Cesario Silva, the principal of a high school in the city of Gran Mar í a in central Portugal, stated that over the past decade, more than 200 students at the school have taken Chinese as a foreign language subject. For them, learning Chinese is not only about mastering a language, but also about connecting with another culture through this bridge, promoting understanding and respect for cultural diversity. It is reported that there are already 7 secondary schools in Portugal offering Chinese language courses. (New Society)
