Continuous release of production and transportation capacity, coal supply guaranteed for this winter and next spring
2024-12-13
Entering winter, the energy consumption for heating has significantly increased. As a stabilizer of China's energy supply, the production, storage, and transportation of coal have attracted much attention. At the recently held 2025 National Coal Trade Fair, more than 30 enterprises signed medium and long-term coal contracts. The medium and long-term contracts signed this time are mostly independently connected by both the supply and demand sides, with a high degree of marketization in the transaction, which is conducive to the enterprise fulfilling the contract according to the actual contract volume, providing a "reassurance pill" for ensuring coal supply this winter and next spring. An Hongguang, the full-time vice director of the China Electricity Council, stated that the vast number of power and coal enterprises actively respond to the complex domestic and international situation, frequent abnormal weather and other severe challenges, and jointly promote the improvement of the long-term, medium and long-term contract system for electricity and coal, ensuring stable supply of coal for power generation and providing strong guarantees for China's economic and social development. Tang Tang, Deputy Director of the Economic Operation and Regulation Bureau of the National Development and Reform Commission, believes that it is necessary to comprehensively improve the level of coal supply, achieve safer, more stable, cleaner, and more economical supply, and better play the role of coal as a safety net. Seriously carry out the signing and performance of medium and long-term contracts for electric coal in 2025, strengthen resource connection, promote the better combination of signing quantity and quality, effective market, proactive government, government supervision, and integrity self-discipline. To ensure the supply of coal this winter, in addition to doing a good job in signing medium and long-term contracts, relevant enterprises actively focus on production and stable transportation. Entering the Huaneng Weijiamao Coal Mine Dispatch Center located in Zhungeer Banner, Ordos, Inner Mongolia, the large screen displays the real-time production and operation status of the coal mine. With just a gentle click on the intelligent control platform, various equipment in the coal mine production, dispatch and other links can be controlled. Empowered by digital technology, the production efficiency of Weijiamao Coal Mine has significantly improved, with the current production capacity increasing to 15 million tons per year. The reporter learned from the China Coal Industry Association that in the first 10 months of this year, the national production of raw coal above designated size was 3.89 billion tons, a year-on-year increase of 1.2%, and the production reached the highest level in the same period of history. In terms of imports, China imported a total of 389 million tons of coal in the first three quarters, a year-on-year increase of 11.9%. At the same time, coal storage is also full of confidence. The data shows that currently, the coal storage of power plants nationwide is over 200 million tons, with an average available days of over 30 days. In terms of coal transportation, since November, the railway department has completed an average daily loading of 87680 coal vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 3.3%, and an average daily loading of 62500 electric coal vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 2.3%. At present, 371 railway direct power plants in China maintain a coal storage period of over 33 days. Dong Hui, Deputy Director of the Freight Department of China Railway Group, said that China Railway Group will further deepen practical cooperation with coal supply and demand enterprises, and jointly build a modern railway coal logistics supply system that connects upstream and downstream, covers the supply chain, adapts supply and demand, is reliable and convenient, intelligent and low-carbon, and reduces costs and increases efficiency. Zhang Hong, spokesperson for the China Coal Industry Association, stated that coal enterprises should fulfill their responsibility for ensuring coal supply, promote the coordinated development of the coal industry chain and supply chain, and ensure the safe and stable supply of coal throughout the country.
