Injecting literary light into the lives of ordinary people

Zhang Yingshu's poetry collection "She · We" (published by Guangxi Normal University Press in May 2024) is a series of poems that depict and depict female images. The work depicts vivid female characters, with smooth storytelling, warm descriptions, and blank spaces. It is full of reason and deep affection. In the poetry, I see unique, vivid, and abundant "she" from different historical backgrounds. Poets are not only creators, but also recorders. Through them, they record the lives of ordinary people, care about their fate, and inject literary light into their lives. The life energy and spiritual power in the flow of time grow out in each new poem, becoming the poetic background of the poetry collection. Zhang Yingshu said in her poem "The Gift of Women": "Inspiration is fleeting, and lasting fragrance comes from profound and enduring exploration and reflection." The poet uses the eyes of life, reading, and the soul to discover, observe, and depict women. From familiar people around us to people we meet by chance, from characters in books to those in news reports, from the old man Xu Jiexiu in the classic red story "Half a Quilt" to the female branch secretary in Sidaoba Village, all are the origins of poets' creations. Most of the female characters in the book are presented by the poet using anthropological fieldwork methods and in-depth field interviews. In 2023, she was sent by her unit to Maigaiti County, Kashgar, Xinjiang to participate in village work. During this period, she traveled to Urumqi, Turpan, Shanshan, Changji, Yili and other places, interviewing many ordinary women and capturing their touching radiance after being carefully polished by the trivialities of life. In the poet's writings, there are women selling goods in bazaar, female fashion designers, female inheritors of intangible cultural heritage, female founders of enterprises, and women working in the fields. She records ordinary women who strive to live in the form of literature, documenting the lives of women in different industries and periods, allowing readers to truly touch history through the poet's pen. Poets understand the world through observation, perception, and imagination, and then present it through artistic thinking. The thickness of life and emotional experience is determined by the accumulated momentary experiences, and details are the condensation of countless momentary experiences. Zhang Yingshu uses this narrative detail to construct poetic contexts. Her creative perspective focuses on different aspects of the female group, describing with expressive details that "their excellence is not only the success of their careers and ideals, but also the spiritual beauty of being open-minded, persevering, and laughing at the ups and downs of life, setbacks, and historical waves. Zhang Yingshu wrote in "The Woman Watching the Sunrise in the Kumutage Desert", "She has already determined the starting point of light/The sun has revealed its head. It's not a leap in the sky behind the clouds/The sun is running, heading south/She rubs her eyes. The sun is still running, heading south/Running, revealing its arms and abdomen/Stretching its limbs, growing feet". In this poem, details enrich the image of the lyrical subject, and various details such as actions and language create a strong sense of presence. The vivid image of the 'sun' is endowed with multi-layered emotional space, making everyday life come alive with ups and downs, becoming dynamic and poetic. Due to the power and infinite vitality of words, poetry also has aesthetic significance. Writing about life, the era, and describing life with poetic strokes can better reach the truth of life and enhance the resonance and sensitivity of poetry. The poet sees a group of people from one person and sees the commonality of their destinies. The emotional resonance between the poet and her, as well as between them, is transformed into an emotional resonance between the reader and the author. Zhang Yingshu often integrates the personal emotions of the lyrical objects with the times. Rather than being a poet, she is more like their messenger, re understanding their relationship with the world and re examining the relationship between literature and life through "poetry". Writing about them is actually a manifestation of self-awareness by the poet. Through observation and conversation with them, the poet completes a series of subconscious writings and reflections on the world and existence of life. (New Society)
