Don't let 'artificial hormones' harm' flowers'
2024-12-03
In the past two years, a previously unfamiliar term has gradually become well-known to the public, which is plasticizers, also known as plasticizers. Numerous experiments have shown that long-term excessive exposure to plasticizers can disrupt the human endocrine system, affecting the reproductive health and growth and development of adolescents. Plasticizers are not harmful but beneficial. In industrial production, as a widely used polymer additive, it can improve the performance of polymer materials, enhance their flexibility, and make them easy to bend and shape. Therefore, plasticizers have significant advantages in improving efficiency and reducing costs. It is precisely this advantage that has led some sports equipment manufacturers to overlook the potential health hazards it poses. The "negative effects" of phthalate plasticizers are similar to artificial hormones. Excessive intake in the human body can cause a decrease in immunity, harm male reproductive ability, and promote early puberty in women. Long term and large intake can lead to liver cancer. Moreover, its potential harm to infants and young children is much higher than that to adults. However, some manufacturers turn a blind eye to this. According to the monitoring results disclosed by the media this time, more than a quarter of the 112 batches of samples had plasticizer content exceeding the reference standard, and some samples had plasticizer content exceeding the reference standard limit by 200 times. The reason why "reference standards" are used for testing is that the current national standards have not yet covered all student sports products. So, this result also indicates that there are still quality control loopholes in both the production and regulatory ends. Some manufacturers, in pursuit of product flexibility and elasticity, have led to excessive amounts of plasticizers in sports products flowing into the children's market. Next, the formulation of relevant standards urgently needs to be put on the agenda. With effective and applicable standards, it is easier to carry out source and long-term governance, and the phenomenon of "bad money driving out good money" will be put to an end. Focusing on the sales process, major e-commerce platforms, supermarkets, wholesale markets, and retail stores should improve their product quality supervision mechanisms and strengthen the traceability of product quality issues. For example, establishing a "red and black list" of production and sales enterprises to block the flow of "artificial hormones" into the market. Nowadays, traditional plasticizers also have "green" replacements. With the advancement of technology and industrial upgrading, manufacturers should seize the opportunity and accelerate technological updates. (New Society)
