2024-11-28

At the invitation of the Ma Ying jeou Foundation for Culture and Education, a delegation of 40 teachers and students from seven universities from mainland China, led by Academician Qiu Yong, Secretary of the Party Committee and Director of the Council of Tsinghua University, arrived at Taoyuan Airport in Taiwan on the afternoon of the 27th and began a 9-day and 8-night exchange visit. The invitation of teachers and students from mainland universities to Taiwan this time is a follow-up visit to Mr. Ma Ying jeou's April exchange trip with young Taiwanese students to mainland universities. The members come from 7 universities including Tsinghua University, Peking University, Fudan University, Sun Yat sen University, Zhejiang University, Fujian Normal University, and Beijing Sport University. At Taoyuan Airport, the visiting delegation was warmly welcomed by various sectors of Taiwan, especially young students, and many people arrived a few hours in advance to wait. In his speech at the welcome dinner, Qiu Yong said that the two sides of the Taiwan Straits share the same root and culture, and the distance between the two sides of the river cannot block the kinship between the Chinese people on both sides of the Taiwan Straits. Strengthening friendly exchanges and deepening communication and cooperation is the will and trend of the people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait. Our group of 40 teachers and students visited Taiwan, hoping to promote cross Straits youth exchanges and cultural exchanges, deepen mutual understanding and friendship among the young generation, and jointly carry forward Chinese culture. Qiu Yong stated that education is an important bridge for communication between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait, and universities on both sides have always maintained close exchanges and cooperation. Chinese culture is the spiritual belonging of compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait and the spiritual bond that connects them by blood. No matter how the times change, the blood ties between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait will not change, and the common historical and cultural heritage will not change. We should contribute to promoting cultural exchanges between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait, sowing the seeds of cultural identity into the hearts of young people on both sides of the strait, so that they can get closer and closer. We believe that the connection between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait will never be interrupted and the friendship will never be obstructed. Compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait who rely on each other and walk together with one heart, as long as they uphold the concept of "one family, two sides of the Taiwan Strait", will surely create a great rejuvenation and a beautiful future for the Chinese nation. Ma Ying jeou expressed in his speech that he hopes mainland students can appreciate the beauty of Taiwan, experience the enthusiasm of the Taiwanese people, and make many good friends in Taiwan. "One of my friends' names is Ma Ying jeou. He also invited mainland classmates to come back next year and swim across Sun Moon Lake with him. Xiao Xucen, Executive Director of the Ma Ying jeou Foundation for Culture and Education, said that the visit of mainland university student and faculty groups to Taiwan at this moment is particularly inspiring. The vast majority of Taiwanese people warmly welcome their visit, and he firmly believes that cross-strait youth exchanges are the foundation of cross-strait future. The foundation will persist and continue to promote cross-strait youth exchanges. It is reported that during their stay in Taiwan, mainland teachers and students will visit six universities including National Taiwan University, Hsinchu Tsinghua University, National Chengchi University, Yangming Jiaotong University, Chinese Culture University, Chang Gung University, as well as Taipei City Zhongshan Girls' Senior High School, and visit historical and cultural sites in Taiwan.
