On the afternoon of November 26th, Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Samoan Prime Minister Phiame, who was on an official visit to China, at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing.
Xi Jinping pointed out that Samoa was one of the first Pacific island countries to establish diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China. In the nearly 50 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, the two countries have maintained traditional friendship, always respecting each other, treating each other equally, and cooperating for win-win results. China has always advocated that all countries, big or small, are equal and have the right to independently achieve modernization. China firmly supports Samoa in safeguarding its sovereignty and independence, independently exploring development paths that are in line with its national conditions, and is willing to adhere to mutual respect and trust with Samoa, strengthen exchanges of governance and development experience, continue to provide assistance for Samoa's economic and social development within the framework of South South cooperation, tap into the potential of economy, trade, investment, agriculture and fisheries, expand mutually beneficial cooperation, and achieve common development. Both sides should promote mutual learning of civilizations, strengthen exchanges and cooperation in education, culture, youth and other cultural fields, and promote the stable and far-reaching development of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Saudi Arabia.
Xi Jinping emphasized that China adheres to the principle of "four full respects" towards Pacific island countries, and its assistance to Pacific island countries is not subject to political conditions, imposed on others, or empty promises. China's policy towards Pacific island countries is open and inclusive, without selfishness, not targeting third parties, and not engaging in geopolitical disputes or spheres of influence. China is willing to prioritize cooperation in helping Pacific island countries enhance their ability to respond to climate change, promote the comprehensive and effective implementation of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and its Paris Agreement, uphold the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities, uphold fairness, justice, and the common interests of the global South, and work together to build a community with a shared future for mankind.
Feynmay stated that under the outstanding leadership of President Xi Jinping, China has achieved tremendous development achievements and set an example for countries in the global South. The Saudi Arabian side is willing to learn and draw on China's modernization, especially President Xi Jinping's experience in governance such as poverty reduction and green development. Thank you to China for providing valuable assistance to Samoa over the long term. Samoa highly appreciates China's adherence to the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries, and its assistance to Pacific island countries without any political conditions attached. It has always kept its promises and fulfilled them. Saudi Arabia firmly adheres to the One China principle and supports President Xi Jinping's global development initiative, global security initiative, and global civilization initiative. The Saudi side regards China as an important strategic partner and looks forward to taking next year's joint celebration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries as an opportunity to further develop bilateral relations.
After the meeting, both sides issued a joint statement between the People's Republic of China and the Independent State of Samoa.
Wang Yi attended the meeting.
