The "Starry Sky, Cloud and Water - Master Xingyun's Brush and Ink Sentiment Theme Calligraphy Exhibition" jointly organized by the National Museum of China and the Taiwan Fo Guang Shan Cultural and Educational Foundation will be held at the National Museum of China on November 26th. Master Xingyun is the founder of Fo Guang Mountain and has long been committed to education, culture, and public welfare, actively promoting cross-strait exchanges. He devoted himself to Linchi for decades, and in his later years, he created his own "Yibi Zi" due to eye disease. According to Master Chang, the director of the Buddha Memorial Hall on Mount Buddha and curator of the exhibition, due to the inability of the eyes to see clearly, Master Hsing Yun can only calculate the distance between characters, and with just one dip of ink, he has to stroke it. No matter how many words, they must be completed in one stroke, hence it is called 'one stroke of words'. This exhibition focuses on presenting Master Xingyun's calligraphy works of "One stroke" through four units: "One stroke of emotion expresses sincerity", "Empty space is my home", "Living in compassion and joy", and "Safe and happy photos of the five continents". It is supplemented by manuscripts, letters, images, photos, and more, totaling more than 160 pieces (sets) of exhibits, showcasing his Zen philosophy and beautiful expectations for cross-strait peace from multiple perspectives. His' one stroke 'contains profound life realm, condensed Eastern wisdom, and pursuit of truth, goodness, and beauty, condensing his lifelong journey of promoting excellent traditional Chinese culture and nurturing the emotional identity of the Chinese nation. As the curator of the exhibition, Chao Daishuang, a research curator at the National Museum of China, stated during a media exploration on the 25th that the exhibition focuses on a "direct dialogue" between the audience and Master Xingyun in terms of content presentation. From the main title of the exhibition, "Starlight Cloud Water," to the four unit titles and subheadings of each unit, they are all derived from Master Xingyun's "One stroke" works. At the same time, the interpretation of the works is mostly from his diary and previously published books; In terms of design, the exhibition specially restored and presented Master Nebula's study. At the entrance of the exhibition hall and in the restored study room, there is a statue of Master Nebula, specially crafted for this exhibition. How to appreciate the artistic quality of calligraphy like "One stroke Character"? Chao Daishuang, who also serves as the director of the Institute of Ancient Calligraphy at the National Museum of China's Calligraphy and Painting Academy, pointed out that Master Xingyun's "Yibi Zi" is a unique writing style formed under special conditions in the face of life difficulties. The works present a sincere and natural charm, and the sincerity and authenticity revealed in the lines of the characters contain an unadorned beauty; At the same time, the content of "Yi Bi Zi" is an expression of Master Xingyun's life wisdom, full of insights into life. I believe that when the audience appreciates the work, they can gain a positive and uplifting power. (New Society)
