2024-11-21
After being vacated, renovated, and protected, the Pear Garden Guild, as a center for the exchange and dissemination of Peking Opera art, has opened for trial operation in Xicheng District, Beijing. On the same day, a press conference was held to commemorate the 120th anniversary of the birth of Mr. Cheng Yanqiu and the performance of "Walking with the Times in Beiyue - Telling Chinese Stories Well". The Liyuan Guild is located at 65 Cherry Hill Street, Xicheng District, Beijing. It used to be a place for people in the Beijing opera and music industry to organize exchanges, and its history can be traced back to the Qing Dynasty. At any time, light flows around, and the relevant names have been "Jingzhong Temple" and "Beijing Pear Garden Public Welfare Association", witnessing the glorious history of traditional Chinese opera art. Entering the current Pear Garden Guild, there are areas such as Beijing Opera Studio, Social Classroom Area, Digital Experience Reading and Viewing Area, Makeup Experience Area, and Outdoor Stage inside the hall. These areas integrate functions such as Beijing Opera theme collection, communication, exhibition, teaching and research, and performing arts, creating a multi-functional offline integrated base that showcases the development process and characteristics of Beijing Opera from multiple perspectives. People never give up the road, tigers never give up the mountains, and opera singers cannot do without Baishun and Hanjiatan A Beijing folk proverb expresses the relationship between Xicheng District in Beijing and the traditional Chinese opera. More than 200 years ago, the four major Huizhou opera troupes successively settled here in Beijing. Sanqing Garden and Zhengyi Temple, known as the living fossil of Chinese theater culture, as well as famous Peking Opera troupes such as Fuliancheng and Binqing Society, were born in Xicheng District. Nearly a thousand Peking Opera masters, including the "Thirteen Treasures of Tongguang", "Four Great Xusheng", and "Four Great Dan", once lived here. At that time, there was a gathering of stages, troupes, and famous performers. As the core functional area of the capital, the political center, cultural center, and international communication center of the country, Xicheng District, known as the "source of the city, the beginning of the capital, and the end of the river", has continuously polished its cultural golden card as the "birthplace of Peking Opera" for many years. It has witnessed the emergence and evolution of various vocal styles, the blooming of various regional opera genres, and the birth and evolution of Peking Opera, carrying the story of the inclusive pear garden. In recent years, Xicheng District has persisted in using culture to polish the city and further enhance its historical and cultural reputation. During this period, the city took the lead in exploring the cultural relic revitalization and utilization model of "government led, social participation, expert supervision, and market-oriented operation" in Xicheng. With more cultural relics coming to life in Xicheng District, more and more historical memories are being continued. At the event, representatives from various cultural fields introduced the development history of the Pear Garden Guild and how it will inherit and promote the art of Peking Opera in the future. They also reviewed Mr. Cheng Yanqiu's artistic achievements and expressed deep nostalgia and respect. During the event, the awarding ceremony of the "Beijing Opera Art Inheritance and Protection Engineering Practice Base" by the China Beijing Opera Art Foundation was held. In the future, the Pear Garden Guild will uphold the concept of "telling Chinese stories well and spreading the art of Peking Opera", allowing more people to understand and love the national essence of Peking Opera, and jointly write a new chapter in Peking Opera art. This event is hosted by the China Peking Opera Art Foundation and Beijing Peking Opera Theater, guided by the Xicheng District Cultural and Tourism Bureau, and organized by the Pear Garden Association.
