Ocean salinity detection satellite successfully launched

2024-11-14

The reporter learned from the National Space Administration that at 6:42 am on November 14th, the ocean salinity detection satellite was launched into space by the Long March 4B Y33 carrier rocket from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center. The carrier rocket flew normally and successfully launched the satellite into its designated orbit, achieving a successful launch mission. The Ocean Salinity Detection Satellite is a scientific research satellite in the national civil space infrastructure, also known as Haiyang-401 satellite. The satellite is equipped with payloads such as a comprehensive aperture radiometer and active/passive detectors. After being launched into orbit, it can fill the gap in China's high-precision global ocean salinity detection capability, improve China's ability to obtain data on ocean dynamic environmental factors, enhance the accuracy and quality of China's ocean forecasting products, meet the business needs of ocean environment forecasting, ocean ecological forecasting, water cycle monitoring, short-term climate prediction, and global climate change research, and also take into account soil moisture measurement. It provides supporting data for the application of ocean main industries and related industries such as agriculture, rural areas, disaster reduction, and meteorology, and forms the ability to apply products. The National Space Administration is responsible for organizing and managing the marine salinity detection satellite project, coordinating major issues, and approving launch permits. The Ministry of Natural Resources, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Ministry of Emergency Management, and China Meteorological Administration are user departments responsible for the construction and operation of their respective application systems; The National Satellite Ocean Application Center of the Ministry of Natural Resources is responsible for the construction and operation of ground systems; The Fifth and Eighth Institutes of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation are respectively responsible for the overall development of satellite systems and carrier rocket systems. This mission is the 545th launch of the Long March series carrier rocket. (New Society)
