The Hong Kong SAR government announced on the 12th that the first batch of 207 Hong Kong engineers have passed the evaluation of engineering professional titles in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area and obtained the corresponding engineering professional title qualifications in mainland China. Due to the different systems in mainland China and Hong Kong, it was difficult for Hong Kong professionals to apply for professional titles in mainland China in the past. The new evaluation mechanism for professional talents in Hong Kong was established last year, starting with pilot evaluations in five engineering disciplines: civil engineering, geotechnical engineering, highway engineering, electrical engineering, and measurement and control instruments. The first batch of pilot projects covers professional title levels including "Senior Engineer", "Senior Engineer", "Engineer", and "Assistant Engineer". These Hong Kong engineers come from public institutions, consulting firms, and contractors. The Secretary for Development of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, Ning Hanhao, delivered a speech at the celebration ceremony held by the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers on the same day, stating that the first batch of pilot engineering professional title evaluations have been successfully completed, expanding the professional service landscape in Hong Kong, reflecting the country's support and care for Hong Kong professionals, and enabling Hong Kong professionals to better contribute to the country's development. The Development Bureau of the Special Administrative Region Government will continue to work closely with relevant departments in mainland China and coordinate with the construction industry in Hong Kong to promote relevant work, implement the designated project indicators in this year's policy address, normalize the evaluation mechanism for professional titles by 2025, and expand it to other qualified construction related professions.
