Wenchuan Bayi Primary School: A 'Youth Military Academy' Inheriting the Red Gene
2024-11-12
Recently, students from Wenchuan Bayi Primary School in Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture lined up neatly in front of the Huang Jiguang Memorial Hall in Zhongjiang County, Sichuan Province. Although they are still young, the students are tall and straight, and the queue is orderly. Huang Yongjun, the nephew of martyr Huang Jiguang, was invited to participate in the event and tell everyone about the deeds of martyr Huang Jiguang. Subsequently, the students lined up in front of the relief sculpture and presented flowers. This is my first time here, but I am very familiar with the story of martyr Huang Jiguang Fifth grade student Li Yiheng said, "Our school is a youth military academy, and teachers often tell us stories of heroic martyrs." "Youth military academies not only require strict discipline and emphasis on physical exercise, but also guide students to understand revolutionary history and learn national defense knowledge." Yuan Min, vice principal of Wenchuan Bayi Primary School, said that the school and the military have an inseparable bond, and building a youth military academy is a natural thing. On May 12, 2008, a major earthquake struck Wenchuan. The People's Liberation Army quickly mobilized and fought on the front line of earthquake relief. At that time, a certain unit of the former Second Artillery Corps was responsible for the rescue and disaster relief mission near the Central Primary School in Shuimo Town, Wenchuan County. The ruins of the campus pierced the hearts of the soldiers: without the school, what would the children do? In June, the officers and soldiers of the department voluntarily proposed to invest in the reconstruction of the school. The new teaching building was laid on November 17, 2008 and completed on July 31, 2009. The new campus not only showcases the speed of the military, but also engraves the purpose of serving the people wholeheartedly on the land of the new Wenchuan. From then on, Shuimo Town Central Primary School was renamed Wenchuan Bayi Primary School. This is the history and advantage of our school Yuan Min said that this experience has given teachers and students a special attachment to the military. However, when building a youth military academy according to standards, we also faced many difficulties at the beginning, "Yuan Min told me. Wenchuan County is located in a remote area, with relatively few military units and red venues, and there are not many opportunities to carry out national defense education practice. With the support of the People's Armed Forces Department of Wenchuan County and through exchanges with other junior military schools, the school has found out the "Four Ones" model in recent years, that is, it invites retired college students and soldiers from resident colleges and universities to carry out a national defense practice activity every year, carries out a research trip to garrison units or red venues outside the jurisdiction, invites heroes and models or outstanding soldiers from Wenchuan to hold a national defense lecture, and organizes to watch a red film. This visit to the Huang Jiguang Memorial Hall is one of the "Four Ones" activities. In recent years, the Rocket Force has continued to assist Wenchuan Bayi Primary School, donating funds multiple times to update teaching equipment and establishing scholarships and grants at the school. The People's Armed Forces Department of Wenchuan County actively coordinated and assisted schools in carrying out national defense education activities, and organized students to visit red venues and military camps multiple times. Not long ago, the national defense education practice and experience activity of the southern school district of Wenchuan County was held at Wenchuan Bayi Primary School. At the national defense lecture, the teacher not only talked about the heroic deeds and fighting spirit of our soldiers during the revolutionary war era, but also introduced the advanced weapons and equipment currently available in our army. The realization of "qi" and "steel" has given fifth grade student Wang Mingyue a new understanding of national defense and the identity of a young military academy student. Last year when I visited the military camp, there was a wall that read 'Can we fight today?'? Can we win the battle today I believe that as long as we study hard and grow up like martyr Huang Jiguang who is not afraid of sacrifice for the country, we will definitely be able to win the battle Wang Mingyue said.
