The Hong Kong Palace Museum will launch an exhibition titled 'When the Forbidden City Meets the Palace of Versailles'

The Palace Museum in Hong Kong announced on the 4th that it will launch a special exhibition titled "When the Forbidden City Meets the Palace of Versailles - Cultural Exchange between China and France in the 17th and 18th Centuries" on December 18th. It is reported that this exhibition aims to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France and the China France Cultural Tourism Year. The exhibition is jointly organized by the Palace Museum of Hong Kong, the Palace Museum, and the Palace of Versailles in France. It will showcase nearly 150 treasures, presenting the history of mutual inspiration and exchange between the Chinese and French courts in culture, art, technology, and other fields from the second half of the 17th century to the 18th century, as well as the long-standing friendship between the two countries. The exhibition will continue until May 4th, 2025. This exhibition will be divided into four units, focusing on key figures and spaces in the Forbidden City and Versailles Palace, science and diplomacy, mutual learning and innovation in craftsmanship, and exchange of art and ideas. The exhibits include 9 Chinese national first-class cultural relics, as well as precious collections from the Palace of Versailles in France and some new collections from recent years. The final section of the exhibition will feature a themed learning area and interactive self-learning activities to help visitors further explore artworks influenced by Sino French exchanges in the 17th and 18th centuries, and uncover interesting knowledge related to cultural exchange, mutual learning, innovation, and more.
