Where has all the time gone? "Time use surveys can answer this question. On October 31st, the National Bureau of Statistics released the third national time use survey bulletin. This survey provides a new dimension for observing residents' daily lives, evaluating improvements in people's livelihoods, and understanding economic and social development by understanding their time investment in various activities. China conducted two time use surveys in 2008 and 2018. The results of the third national time use survey released this time show that with the development of China's economy and society, the level of digitization and informatization continues to improve, and residents' time use allocation and production and lifestyle have undergone significant changes: firstly, residents have further "liberated their hands" in household chores. With the continuous upgrading of smart home applications in daily life, home services such as ordering takeout and finding housekeeping are gradually gaining public recognition. Survey data shows that participants in household chores spend an average of 1 hour and 59 minutes per day, a decrease of 28 minutes compared to 2018. The shortened time for household chores by residents reflects a further improvement in the quality of life for Chinese residents. The second is that online shopping helps unleash consumer potential. Survey data shows that participants in purchasing goods or services activities spend an average of 43 minutes per day, a decrease of 37 minutes from 2018; The participation rate of the activity was 34.1%, an increase of 13.0 percentage points compared to 2018; When purchasing goods or services, the proportion of residents using the Internet was 54.7%, 38.1 percentage points higher than that in 2018. Thirdly, the enthusiasm for nationwide fitness is high. The survey results show that the participation rate of Chinese residents in sports and fitness activities is 49.6%, an increase of 18.7 percentage points from 2018. Fourth, informatization accelerates the popularization of the Internet. The survey results show that the average daily time of Internet users is 5 hours and 37 minutes, an increase of 2 hours and 55 minutes over 2018; The participation rate of Internet use activities was 92.9%, 35.9 percentage points higher than that in 2018. The increase in Internet use duration and participation rate reflects the closer connection between the production and life of Chinese residents and the Internet. The head of the Social Science and Culture Department of the National Bureau of Statistics introduced that the third national time use survey has been optimized based on the previous two surveys in terms of survey scope, survey objects, survey content, and survey methods. For example, the survey scope was expanded from about one-third of the country to 31 provinces (regions, cities) and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, using a unified sampling method to select 38500 urban and rural households, with a total of 107000 people participating in the survey. The survey population has been expanded to permanent members aged 6 and above, and the age group of 6-14 has been added to make the survey population more comprehensive and extensive. The survey also divided residents' daily activities into 6 main activity areas and 13 main activity categories, expanding the activity categories to 34, making the survey content more diverse and detailed. Overall, this survey can be considered a completely new one, "said the person in charge. The third national time use survey can comprehensively and accurately reflect the residents' time use situation and changes in production and life, and will provide detailed and accurate statistical information support for improving people's livelihood and scientifically formulating social livelihood policies The person in charge introduced that the National Bureau of Statistics will release more detailed national and regional summary data through materials such as the "China Time Use Survey Yearbook", and organize research projects to conduct in-depth analysis and research on the time use and activity characteristics of Chinese residents.
