Severely crack down on the 'big bad wolf' after sharing screens
2024-10-30
Recently, there have been multiple cases of screen sharing fraud targeting student groups in Shenzhen. The Shenzhen Anti Telecom Network Fraud Center has issued a warning, reminding students and parents to enhance their awareness of prevention and improve their ability to prevent fraud. The victims of these cases are mostly middle school students aged 12 to 18. In response, the police revealed the "three-step process" of screen sharing fraud: firstly, the fraudster will disguise their identity to gain trust. Then, induce students to download screen sharing software. After gaining the trust of the victim, scammers will induce them to download conference software with screen sharing functionality. Finally, turn on the shared screen to steal student information. Fraudsters will demand victims to enable screen sharing functions for various reasons such as providing guidance and verifying information. In the Internet era, middle school students often need to access information and learn knowledge on the Internet. In this process, they may use some conference software. However, due to their lack of social experience, they are easy to ignore the "shared screen" and get cheated. Government regulatory departments should take practical responsibility and crack down severely on various types of online fraud activities. In addition, schools and parents should guide students to establish a sense of prevention and identify fraudulent methods. Schools can cooperate with relevant departments to increase anti fraud publicity efforts, invite professionals to conduct anti fraud knowledge lectures in schools, or distribute anti fraud propaganda leaflets to help students establish anti fraud awareness.
