As one of the official agendas of the 16th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (COP16), the Forum on Energy Transition for Biodiversity Conservation was held on the 25th in Cali, Colombia. Officials and scholars from the United Nations, Colombia, and China highly recognize the new concepts and solutions for collaborative governance of energy, climate, and biodiversity. The forum was jointly organized by the Global Energy Internet Development Cooperation Organization (hereinafter referred to as the "Cooperation Organization") initiated by China, the United Nations Development Programme, the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network and other organizations. The cooperative organization released the report "Energy Climate Biodiversity Collaborative Governance" at the forum, proposing the overall idea and implementation path of using energy transformation to address climate change and protect biodiversity. In addition, the cooperative organization has also released the "List of Energy Transition Promoting Biodiversity Conservation", which plays a demonstrative role in guiding the global energy transition process to attach importance to biodiversity conservation and promoting the coordinated governance of energy and biodiversity. The first batch of lists was selected from over 130 cases worldwide, including 10 of the most representative, innovative, and effective projects from countries such as China, Singapore, Chile, Sweden, Italy, and Ethiopia. Liu Zehong, Vice President of the Cooperation Organization, said that the significance of building a global energy Internet is not only to meet the energy needs of economic and social development, but also to maximize the protection of natural ecology and achieve sustainable development where development and protection promote each other. Tim Scott, Senior Advisor of the United Nations Development Programme, stated at the forum that climate instability, biodiversity, and land degradation are interrelated, and their solutions are no exception. The report on collaborative governance is timely and the globally selected cases are excellent, representing the latest achievements in achieving sustainable development. Jeffrey Sachs, the head of the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network, stated through video that the forum focuses on two closely related themes - protecting biodiversity and achieving energy transition, which humanity must achieve simultaneously.
