The Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Li Jiachao, hopes that MTR will continue to serve the development of the city. Its railway network carries over 5 million daily trips throughout Hong Kong and promotes connections between Hong Kong and various cities in the country through the high-speed railway (Hong Kong section), strengthening public exchanges and commercial cooperation. Li Jiachao pointed out that the Hung Shui Kiu Station and the Northern Link mainline project in the "Hong Kong Major Transport Infrastructure Development Blueprint" released by the SAR government last year will start construction this year and next year, and are tentatively scheduled to be completed in 2030 and 2034 respectively. The MTR Corporation will also start detailed planning and design of the Northern Link branch line early next year, promoting the integration of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area.
