Traditional charm meets fashion trends, and national treasures shine on the international stage. Recently, the Chuxiong Yi ethnic costume intangible cultural heritage fashion exhibition from Yunnan, China was held in Paris, France. This national intangible cultural heritage with a history of more than 1700 years once again appeared on the international mainstream fashion stage. On that day, a total of 35 sets of Chu Xiong intangible cultural heritage costumes were displayed by Chinese and foreign models wearing them. These costumes, with modern design concepts and cutting methods, highlight the traditional intangible cultural heritage characteristics of Chuxiong Yi ethnic costumes, firmly locking the attention of over a hundred invited viewers around the runway. This year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France, as well as the China France Cultural Tourism Year. The 2024 Paris Fashion Week · China Chuxiong Intangible Cultural Heritage Clothing Fashion Exhibition is one of the series of activities celebrating the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France. The Yi ethnic clothing works exhibited this time were jointly designed and produced by inheritors of intangible cultural heritage and fashion designers from art schools, skillfully integrating traditional culture with contemporary aesthetics, ethnic characteristics with international trends. Chuxiong Yi ethnic clothing has a history of over 1700 years and is a proud "fingertip art" and "spiritual flower" of the Yi people. In long-term production and life, the Yi ethnic group has formed a rich and colorful clothing culture, known for its rich patterns, strong colors, and exquisite designs. Yi ethnic costumes were approved by the State Council to be included in the fourth batch of national intangible cultural heritage list in 2014. Generation after generation of Yi women embroider fallen magpies, blooming mountain flowers, fluttering butterflies, as well as sincere and strong emotions and aspirations for a better life on cloth and sew them onto clothing. Nowadays, Yi embroidery has entered the world stage with its unique charm. From Shanghai to New York, from Milan to Paris, Yi embroidery has become a shining business card of Chinese national culture. (New Society)
