The "2024 International Trade Outlook for Latin America and the Caribbean" report released by the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean) on the 23rd in Santiago, Chile, shows that international trade in Latin America and the Caribbean is gradually recovering this year, and China will be the fastest-growing market for its exports among the region's major trading partners. The report predicts that the export value of goods in Latin America and the Caribbean will increase by 4% this year, with agriculture, mining and oil industries, and manufacturing industries contributing the largest growth. It is reported that the export value of goods in the region decreased by 1% during the same period last year. In terms of trade in services, the report shows that thanks to the recovery of the tourism industry and the digital driven growth of the modern service industry, the export value of the service industry in the region will increase by 12% this year, growing at a double-digit rate for the fourth consecutive year. China is an important trading partner in Latin America and the Caribbean, and the report predicts that China will be the fastest-growing market for exports in the region this year. According to previous statistics from the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, the total trade volume of goods between China and Latin America increased by 35 times from 2000 to 2022, while the total trade volume between the region and other parts of the world only increased by 4 times during the same period. Salazar Sirinachis, Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, said at the report launch that the export trade situation in Latin America and the Caribbean has improved, but there is still a need to strengthen product diversification and develop knowledge intensive service trade. He stated that geopolitical tensions and the rise of trade protectionism pose complex challenges to regional trade transformation.
