Guangzhou Maritime Court releases 2023 Maritime Trial White Paper

Recently, the Guangzhou Maritime Court released the 2023 Maritime Trial White Paper, marking the 8th time the court has released a white paper in Chinese, English, and Portuguese. According to the white paper, in 2023, the court concluded a total of 4040 cases of various types, with the top three types of cases being disputes over cargo transportation contracts in sea and sea areas, disputes over freight forwarding contracts in sea and sea areas, and disputes over crew labor contracts. The court has deepened the division of complex and simple cases, and the application rate of simplified procedures in first instance litigation cases has reached 51.46%. In the past year, the largest number of newly received cases in the first instance were freight forwarding dispute cases, with a total of 625 cases, accounting for 27.1%, which has been increasing year by year for five consecutive years. The white paper also puts forward corresponding countermeasures and suggestions on hot issues such as maritime administrative litigation, maritime insurance, cargo transportation, cross-border e-commerce logistics, usufructuary rights, and enforcement procedures.
