2024-10-23
At the 2024 Beijing International Wind Energy Conference and Exhibition, a series of innovative achievements in the wind power industry were dazzling, including the world's largest offshore wind turbine unit, which is equivalent to more than 60 floors high, and can be applied to a wide range of sea areas with dual main engines and dual wind turbines in a "Y" shape floating wind power platform at a depth of over 35 meters. It is equivalent to the world's longest wind turbine blades of two A380 aircraft. As the scale of wind power in China continues to grow, how to "transform" into higher quality through innovation has attracted much attention. As the global energy transition accelerates, wind energy, as one of the important clean energy sources, is entering an unprecedented era of rapid development, surpassing the milestone of 500 million kilowatts of installed capacity. The latest report from the Global Wind Energy Council shows that in 2023, the world's newly installed wind power capacity reached 117 gigawatts, a year-on-year increase of 50% and a historic high. Among them, China accounts for nearly 65% of the world's total newly installed capacity with 75 gigawatts. From January to August this year, China's wind power generation reached nearly 600 billion kilowatt hours, accounting for nearly one tenth of the country's total power generation, and has become the third largest source of electricity in China. Qin Haiyan, Secretary General of the Wind Energy Professional Committee of the China Renewable Energy Society, introduced that the global cumulative installed capacity of wind power is just over 1 billion kilowatts, and China's cumulative installed capacity has exceeded 500 million kilowatts, accounting for about half of the global installed capacity. Chinese wind power is playing an increasingly important role in global energy transition and addressing climate change. Nowadays, China has established an internationally leading wind power industry system, with wind power equipment manufacturing capabilities firmly at the forefront of the world. A series of original and breakthrough scientific and technological achievements have emerged like mushrooms after rain. With this assistance, wind power companies have accelerated their pace of going global in recent years. By the end of 2023, the cumulative export capacity of wind turbines has exceeded 15 million kilowatts. Among the top 5 newly installed wind turbine suppliers worldwide in 2023, 4 are from China. The development of the wind power market provides vast market opportunities and development space for the growth of foreign-funded enterprises. At this year's Beijing International Wind Energy Conference, international pavilions from Germany, Denmark, Norway and other countries made high-profile appearances, and many internationally renowned companies participated, including Siemens, SKF, Schaeffler, ExxonMobil and others. These enterprises not only showcased their latest technologies and products in the field of wind power, but also engaged in in-depth exchanges and cooperation with Chinese wind power companies. Since the beginning of this year, the installed capacity of wind power in China has continued to grow, the power generation has continued to increase, offshore wind power has steadily advanced, and the 'going global' has achieved significant results Cui Guangsheng, Deputy Director of the Comprehensive Department of the New Energy and Renewable Energy Department of the National Energy Administration, stated that the next step will be to promptly study and solve the difficulties and problems faced in project construction, ensuring that large-scale wind and photovoltaic bases are put into operation on schedule. Accelerate the implementation of the key tasks for the construction of offshore wind power bases specified in the 14th Five Year Plan, and steadily promote the development and construction of deep-sea offshore wind power. Innovation determines how high an industry can soar, and the continuous emergence of innovative achievements is the most intuitive feeling of the reporter towards the 2024 Beijing International Wind Energy Conference. The design height is 185 meters, equivalent to a 63 story residential building, with an impeller diameter of over 310 meters and a sweeping area of over 77000 square meters, equivalent to 10.5 standard football fields... Dongfang Electric's independently developed 26 MW offshore wind turbine is particularly eye-catching, and it is currently the largest single unit capacity and longest impeller diameter offshore domestically produced wind turbine in the world. Among them, the key components such as the generator, blades, bearings, and electronic control system of the unit have all reached the world's leading level of technology, which is the latest achievement of the rapid progress of China's wind power equipment industry chain technology. In addition to continuing to break through in large-scale development, wind turbines are also moving further into the sea. The offshore floating 20 MW wind turbine "Qihang", which is a key display of CRRC, was successfully launched at the CRRC Times Green Equipment Industrial Park in Sheyang, Jiangsu. The wind turbine diameter of the "Qihang" unit reaches 260 meters, the maximum blade tip height can reach 320 meters, and the sweeping area is equivalent to 7 standard football fields. At full wind speed, one revolution can generate 40 kilowatt hours of electricity. This unit breaks geographical limitations and expands the territory of wind power generation to a wider and deeper sea, becoming another leap in China's wind power technology innovation. The large-scale development of wind turbines cannot do without a larger verification platform. The first 35 megawatt level six degree of freedom wind power test bench in China and the world's largest has attracted widespread attention. Feng Shi, a testing engineer at Sany Heavy Energy and the head of the Nankou Test Center, introduced that the test bench is completely independently developed and designed by Sany Heavy Energy, and is constructed using a 100% domestic supply chain. It is currently the world's largest wind power transmission test bench with the highest carrying power, the highest restoration degree, and the most comprehensive verification. It can meet the full life cycle verification needs of 35 MW level wind turbines, creating more possibilities for large-scale wind power and representing China's higher voice in the field of large MW wind power verification. The advancement of wind power technology has opened up broader space for the development of the wind power industry. Cao Zhigang, President of Goldwind Technology, stated that with the continuous innovation of adaptive technology, wind turbines have been able to break through conventional application environments, including ultra-high altitude, ultra-high temperature, and ultra-high wind speed environments. With the support of anti typhoon technology, wind turbines can "dance with typhoons", significantly expanding the available range of wind resources and providing solid experience support for the development of far-reaching offshore wind power. Quality determines how far an industry can go. "Full lifecycle safety and reliability" is a high-frequency keyword commonly emphasized by whole machine manufacturers. Wind power equipment is expensive, and an accident not only causes direct property damage, but also has an irreparable impact on the reputation of the wind power industry. In recent years, offshore wind power has been continuously advancing into deep and open seas, and the large-scale development of wind turbines has rapidly increased. Some models need to be introduced to the market before they can undergo long-term on-site verification. How to ensure the quality of wind turbines is a must answer question. During the conference, 12 complete machine enterprises including Goldwind Technology, Yuanjing Energy, Yunda Co., Ltd., Mingyang Intelligent, and Sany Heavy Energy jointly signed the "Self discipline Convention for Maintaining a Fair Competition Environment in the Chinese Wind Power Industry", stating that they will jointly regulate various behaviors in market competition and focus on solving problems such as low price vicious competition. This means that the wind power industry will pay more attention to seeking a balance between development speed and quality. In the view of Lou Yimin, Senior Vice President of Far East Energy and President of Wind Turbine Product Line, wind power is a new and advanced productive force, and wind turbines are equipment with long lifespan requirements and high-value investments. It is necessary to adhere to a long-term approach and pay attention to the profitability of the entire life cycle of 25 and 30 years. China's wind power, which used to grow rapidly on the shoulders of giants, has now entered the 'no man's land'. Every step forward is a brand new exploration, which means that wind turbines will move from 'manufacturing' to the 'creation' stage. The development of increasingly large new units requires massive cost investments, including full operating conditions, multi-level testing and verification, which should be reflected in the final product prices, so that the value of creation and innovation can be recognized by the market Lou Yimin said. Lean production at the manufacturing end is an important part of ensuring the quality of wind power equipment. Recently, the world's first wind power industry "lighthouse factory" certification settled in Shaoshan Sany Heavy Energy Blade Factory in China, achieving a breakthrough in the wind power industry's "lighthouse factory" from 0 to 1. Liao Xudong, Vice General Manager of Sany Heavy Energy, introduced that at the Shaoshan factory, a single iPad can monitor all the operation and production data of the factory in real time. From the temperature and humidity of the production unit, to the process parameters and technical indicators such as bolt torque control and blade grinding flatness coefficient, every key indicator that affects product quality will be presented on the platform, achieving 360 degree online monitoring and lean management of the entire production process without blind spots. The high-quality development of the wind power industry also requires addressing the issue of electrical energy reliability. Shi Lishan, former deputy director of the New Energy and Renewable Energy Department of the National Energy Administration, said that in the future, we need to solve the fluctuation problems of wind power and photovoltaic power generation, and form the ability to independently provide new energy electricity. This requires further strengthening the cooperation between wind power and energy storage, as well as the cooperation between wind power and microgrids. Lou Yimin also stated that new energy represented by wind and solar power will become the main power source of the future energy system. To truly increase the proportion of green electricity in the power grid to 80% or even higher, it is necessary to overcome the strong volatility of wind and solar power. Based on grid type wind turbines and grid type energy storage, establishing a new type of power system with "source following load, load following source, and source load interaction" is a feasible path. As long as we break through the technological bottleneck of grid construction and even off grid equipment, the problem of wind and solar power abandonment will be easily solved, and new energy will open up a colorful future.
