Recently, the China National Intellectual Property Administration officially released the Statistical Monitoring Report on China's Patent Intensive Industries. The report shows that China's patent intensive industries have strong innovation capabilities and great development potential, gathering nearly 50% of the R&D investment of national enterprises and producing about 70% of invention patents. The "14th Five Year Plan for National Intellectual Property Protection and Utilization" proposes the task of "cultivating patent intensive industries", and it is expected that by 2025, the added value of China's patent intensive industries will account for 13% of GDP. The report shows that in 2022, the added value of China's patent intensive industries reached 1.532 trillion yuan, with an average annual growth rate of 9.36% from 2018 to 2022, which is 2.37 percentage points higher than the current average annual growth rate of GDP during the same period. In 2022, the added value of China's patent intensive industries accounted for 12.71% of GDP, an increase of 0.27 percentage points from the previous year and a cumulative increase of 1.07 percentage points from 2018. The report indicates that China's patent intensive industries play a prominent leading and driving role. From 2018 to 2022, among the seven patent intensive industries, the top three industries with the fastest average annual growth rate in industrial added value are information and communication technology services, with an average annual growth rate of 14.86%; The R&D, design, and technical services industry has an average annual growth rate of 11%; The information and communication technology manufacturing industry has an average annual growth rate of 10.23%. The double-digit growth of the digital economy, research and development industry, and other industries has strongly supported the accelerated formation of new quality productive forces and the high-quality development of the economy and society. In addition, in 2022, the internal expenditure of R&D (research and experimental development) funds in China's patent intensive industries reached 1.14 trillion yuan, an increase of 11.28% over the previous year, with an investment intensity of 2.46%, an increase of 0.11 percentage points over the previous year and 0.4 percentage points over 2018, which is 2.23 times that of non patent intensive industries. The proportion of new product sales revenue to operating revenue was 37.02%, an increase of 0.89 percentage points from the previous year, an increase of 6.32 percentage points from 2018, and 15.85 percentage points higher than non patent intensive industries.
