National supercomputing Internet platform builds "expressway" for digital China

2024-10-18

In the current era of rapid rise and increasingly widespread application of artificial intelligence technology, how should the demand for computing power be met? At the 2024 China Computing Power Conference held in Zhengzhou, Henan Province a few days ago, the academicians and experts attending the conference said that the national supercomputing Internet platform is gradually forming an overall layout with advanced technology, innovative models, high-quality services and perfect ecology, and becoming a "high-speed road" to support the construction of digital China. Breaking through the bottleneck of computing power, industry outlook: "Super intelligent fusion". According to information released by the National Data Bureau in March this year, the number of large models with a parameter scale of over 1 billion in China has exceeded 100. Li Jun, Director of the National High Performance Computer Engineering Technology Research Center, stated that currently, digital infrastructure, including supercomputing centers, is gradually showing a new trend of networked layout of computing power resources, diversified development of computing power supply, and widespread popularization of application services. While seizing this development opportunity, the industry also needs to be aware of the challenges it faces: the operating model of computing power centers is still relatively single and difficult to fully stimulate market vitality; The innovation and development in the field of industrial software applications are relatively lagging behind, and have not kept pace with the upgrading of hardware infrastructure Li Jun said. How to promote the implementation of "super intelligent integration" technology? Academicians and experts attending the meeting said that the construction of advanced computing platforms such as the national supercomputing Internet has become the key. Compared to the international top level, there is still a certain gap in the performance of high-end AI computing facilities in China. Seizing the opportunity of super intelligent integration development will help us catch up with performance goals Chen Runsheng, an academician of the CAS Member, said. It is understood that in April 2023, the Ministry of Science and Technology will start the deployment of national supercomputing Internet. In April this year, the national supercomputing Internet platform was officially launched. The platform operated the supercomputing infrastructure with Internet thinking, forming a convenient service model similar to e-commerce. By the end of August, it had linked more than 280 service providers, provided more than 6300 computing products, and could provide easy-to-use computing services for hundreds of industries and more than 1000 application scenarios. Cao Zhennan, deputy director of the National High Performance Computer Engineering Technology Research Center, said that the national supercomputing Internet platform could break the bottom differences of computing resources in different regions, entities and architectures, and achieve the standardization, unification and cross regional scheduling of computing resources, which could become an important support for the evolution of "super intelligence integration". The construction of a standard system to regulate the healthy development of the industry. 'Super intelligent integration' is not only about technological superposition, but also about integrating the capabilities and advantages of supercomputing and intelligent computing, broadening scientific research ideas, and opening up broader new spaces for industrial innovation, 'said Li Mingfeng, Vice President of Henan Academy of Sciences. Collaborative development, standards come first. In the process of building the national supercomputing Internet platform, the lack of standards has become the bottleneck that restricts the development of the industry's multiple advantages. In order to further promote the construction of national computing network integration, the National Supercomputing Internet Consortium and the National Intelligent Computing Standardization Working Group officially launched the "construction of national standard system for supercomputing Internet" at the Supercomputing Internet Sub Forum held on the 28th. It is understood that the construction of the national standard system of supercomputing Internet will take the lead in the development of basic and platform standards such as the Reference Architecture of Intelligent Computing and Supercomputing Internet and the Operational Requirements of Intelligent Computing and Supercomputing Internet Platform. In the future, we will adhere to a problem oriented approach, with the goal of regulating the healthy development of the industry and leading the improvement of industry quality and efficiency. We will develop relevant national standards in key areas such as service, application, and management. Qiao Bo, Deputy Secretary General of the National Technical Standards Innovation Base (Intelligent Computing), said that he would continue to adhere to the concept of joint consultation, joint construction, sharing and common development, and continue to iteratively improve the supercomputing Internet standard system framework. According to data related to building core nodes to promote regional computing power collaboration, the output value of Henan's server and intelligent sensor industries accounts for 15.4% and 10% of the country's total, respectively. There are more than 800 software enterprises and over 600 big data enterprises in the province, with an average annual growth rate of about 30% in data resources and storage capacity of various data centers exceeding 25EB. Thanks to the advantages of rich data resources, diversified computing application scenarios, and low network latency, the core node of supercomputing Internet has been located in Zhengzhou, Henan Province. Since the start of construction in October 2023, the construction of core node projects has been steadily and rapidly advancing. The "Zhengzhou Advanced Computing Institute", established at the same time as the core node construction, relies on the national supercomputing Internet to carry out the research and development of domestic supercomputing basic software, focuses on building a domestic computing power basic software stack, and plans to train more than 5000 domestic application software R&D talents. It is reported that after the completion of the Zhengzhou node, it will become an important infrastructure support for "super intelligent integration". By integrating heterogeneous computing resources in Henan region, seamless integration and efficient collaboration between supercomputing and intelligent computing centers will be achieved. "Relying on Zhengzhou core node and advanced computing research institute, it is expected that by the end of 2025, the national supercomputing Internet platform will gather more than 500 service providers and more than 10000 computing goods, forming an overall layout with advanced technology, innovative model, high-quality service and perfect ecology." Li Jun said. It is worth mentioning that during the conference, the interconnection between the National Supercomputing Internet and Zhengqingha Urban Computing Network was officially launched, further promoting the interconnection of national computing resources. It is reported that the Zhengzhou Qingha Urban Computing Power Network, as a cross regional collaboration model, has built a three-level computing power delay circle of 1 millisecond within the provincial city, 5 milliseconds from Zhengzhou to Qingyang, and 20 milliseconds from Zhengzhou to Hami, forming a "triangular" digital computing integration system with Qingyang and Hami as the "computing power supply stations" and Zhengzhou as the "computing power relay station". This system achieves optimized allocation and efficient sharing of computing power resources in multiple regions, injecting powerful computing power into scientific research innovation and industrial upgrading in the central and western regions.
