The reporter learned from the Institute of High Energy Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences that the construction of the Jiangmen neutrino experiment, a major scientific and technological infrastructure in China, has entered the final stage, and the main device of the detector has been basically completed. It is expected to complete all the installation tasks by the end of November, start the filling of ultra pure water and liquid scintillators, and officially run data in August 2025. The Jiangmen Neutrino Experiment aims to measure the mass order of neutrinos as its primary scientific objective, while conducting multiple major cutting-edge interdisciplinary studies such as supernova neutrinos, Earth neutrinos, solar neutrinos, atmospheric neutrinos, and proton decay. Wang Yifang, director of the Institute of High Energy Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and chief scientist of the Jiangmen Neutrino Experiment, said that understanding and studying neutrinos through large scientific devices is of great significance for particle physics, astrophysics, cosmology and other basic science fields. At the same time, in the construction of the Jiangmen Neutrino Experiment, a major technological infrastructure, researchers have made substantial breakthroughs in a series of cutting-edge technology fields such as the development of domestically produced new photomultiplier tubes, high-performance liquid scintillators, design and manufacturing of ultra large and high-precision detectors, and ultra large span experimental chambers, fully reflecting the driving role of the Big Science Plan in technological and industrial development. Currently, the Jiangmen Neutrino Experiment is increasingly becoming a new platform for international scientific research cooperation. Wang Yifang said that the Jiangmen Neutrino Experiment has attracted 750 researchers from 17 countries and regions and 74 research institutions to participate, promoting global progress in neutrino research through the sharing of funding, joint research and development of technology, and sharing of scientific research achievements.
