Report: Global smartphone shipments in Q3 2024 increase by 5% year-on-year
2024-10-15
On October 15th, according to the latest research report released by market research firm Canalys, the global smartphone market continued to maintain strong growth momentum in the third quarter of 2024, with shipments increasing by 5% year-on-year. This is the fourth consecutive quarter of positive growth, indicating that the global smartphone market is steadily recovering and showing a good development trend. The research report shows that the growth in global smartphone shipments in the third quarter of 2024 is mainly due to strong demand from emerging economies and the early stages of the replacement cycle in North America, China, and Europe. The positive performance of these markets has collectively driven the overall growth of the global smartphone market. In terms of specific manufacturer performance, Samsung still leads the world in smartphone shipments, with a market share of 18%. Apple followed closely behind with a market share of 18% and a record high shipment volume, demonstrating Apple's strong competitiveness in the global market. Xiaomi continues to maintain its position as the third largest smartphone manufacturer with a market share of 14%, while OPPO and vivo rank fourth and fifth respectively with a market share of 9%. Among them, vivo has achieved significant market expansion with double-digit growth rates. Canalys analyst Runar Bj? Rhovde emphasized that in the third quarter of this year, Apple's shipment volume reached the highest level in the same period of previous years, and its market share was on par with Samsung, never so close to its position as the world's top shipment volume. The sustained strong demand for the iPhone 15 series and older Apple models played a crucial role in Apple's performance in the third quarter. Analysts also pointed out that although the global smartphone market has maintained overall growth, the gap between the top five manufacturers has narrowed and the competitive landscape has become more intense. Major manufacturers are actively seeking technological innovation and market expansion to maintain a leading position in the increasingly fierce market competition. (New Society)
