The 2024 Tianfu Book Fair will be held in Chengdu from the 11th to the 14th. During the book fair, Wang Wei, a member of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and a renowned archaeologist, visited the venue to share his book "Tracing the Origins of Chinese Civilization" and answer hot questions about Sanxingdui. Regarding the development process of the Sanxingdui civilization, Wang Wei stated that the Sanxingdui site has a history of human activities dating back to around 4300 years, but the truly magnificent bronze civilization was formed around 3400 to 3200 years ago, which is comparable to the Xia and Shang dynasties in the Central Plains. He emphasized that the bronze civilization of Sanxingdui does not exist in isolation, but is closely related to the Central Plains civilization. For example, the jade ritual vessels such as the jade spear, jade sword, and jade zhang unearthed from Sanxingdui were the first to appear in the Central Plains region during the late Xia Dynasty and then spread to the Sanxingdui area. The bronze ware manufacturing technology of Sanxingdui also originated from the early Shang Dynasty and reached a new peak with the invention and creation of local craftsmen. Regarding the question of the presence of special lead in Sanxingdui bronze ware, Wang Wei also provided an explanation: this special lead had already been discovered in the Yin ruins and was not unique to Sanxingdui. Wang Wei pointed out that Sanxingdui is fascinating due to its mystery, and there are many speculations about its origin and nature from the outside world. However, as an archaeologist deeply involved in the excavation and research of Sanxingdui, he believes that these speculations lack scientific basis and require objective analysis from an archaeological perspective. At the event, Wang Wei also introduced 'Tracing the Origins of Chinese Civilization'. It is understood that the author lineup of the book carries a significant weight. In addition to Wang Wei, there are Liu Qingzhu, member of the Academic Department of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and former director of the Archaeological Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Zhao Hui, chief expert of the "Chinese Civilization Exploration Project", professor of the School of Archaeology, Culture and Museum of Peking University, and Han Jianye, professor of the School of History of Renmin University of China and distinguished professor of the "Yangtze River Scholars Award Program" of the Ministry of Education. All four authors are personal participants and even the main leaders of the "Chinese Civilization Exploration Project". Tracing the Origins of Chinese Civilization "is published by Beijing United Publishing Company and distributed by Beijing Huajing Times Cultural Media Co., Ltd. The distinctive feature of this book is the use of archaeology to trace the origins of Chinese civilization. The book systematically expounds the historical context of the origin, formation, and development of Chinese civilization, empirically verifies the long-standing civilization of China that has been continuously fragmented for over 5000 years, explains the overall characteristics of Chinese civilization as "diverse and integrated, inclusive, and continuous", and explains the historical causes of the continuous and unified multi-ethnic country of Chinese civilization. At the same time, the book extensively analyzes the research of scholars from various countries on global civilization and Chinese civilization, conducts in-depth comparative studies of Chinese and foreign civilizations, and interprets Chinese civilization in a broader temporal and spatial context.
