Recently, the "Two Highs" released typical cases of severely punishing crimes that endanger the safety of edible agricultural products in accordance with the law, and introduced relevant information. The head of the relevant department of the Supreme People's Court introduced that people's courts at all levels across the country attach great importance to the trial of crimes that endanger the safety of edible agricultural products, fully play their criminal trial functions, and severely punish related crimes such as the use of prohibited and restricted drugs and excessive residues of agricultural and veterinary drugs in accordance with the law. They have also revised and improved relevant judicial interpretations to provide legal protection for punishing related crimes in accordance with the law, and achieved good results. Starting from June 2021, the Supreme People's Court, the Supreme People's Procuratorate, and seven other departments including the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs launched a three-year special campaign to control illegal drugs and promote improvement. In the past three years, a total of 16070 cases of crimes endangering food safety have been concluded in the first instance by courts across the country, including 1429 cases involving 11 varieties of edible agricultural products that were targeted for special action, effectively punishing crimes endangering the safety of edible agricultural products. On December 31, 2021, the "Two Highs" revised and released an explanation on several issues related to the application of laws in handling criminal cases of endangering food safety. In response to the prominent illegal addition of pesticides and veterinary drugs, relevant provisions were added to further tighten the criminal law network and provide a standardized basis for cracking down on such crimes in accordance with the law. Since November 2021, the Supreme People's Court has successively revised and issued regulations on the application of laws in the trial of food and drug dispute cases, formulated and issued interpretations on the application of laws in the trial of punitive damages disputes related to food and drugs, and effectively protected the legitimate rights and interests of the people. At the same time, the Supreme People's Court continues to implement judicial interpretations related to food through various forms such as publishing typical cases and organizing lectures and training, effectively improving the quality and efficiency of trials in the field of food safety in courts across the country. On July 1, 2023, the "Legal Answer Network" was officially launched and put into operation. People's courts at all levels across the country actively provided consultation and answers to difficult and complex issues related to crimes that endanger the safety of edible agricultural products. A large number of pain points and difficult problems that troubled the front line of trials were promptly resolved. On February 27, 2024, the People's Court Case Database was officially launched and opened to the public, continuously publishing criminal reference cases related to edible agricultural products, effectively guiding trial practice, and further promoting the correct and unified application of the law.
