The level of green development in agriculture in our country is steadily improving

2024-10-05

Recently, the "China Agricultural Green Development Report 2023" jointly released by the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and the China Agricultural Green Development Research Association showed that from 2015 to 2022, China's agricultural green development index has increased from 75.19 to 77.90, and the level of agricultural green development has steadily improved. The comprehensive green transformation of agriculture has been continuously promoted in multiple dimensions, and the pilot effect of agricultural green development has been significant. Technological innovation effectively supports agricultural green development. Chen Bangxun, Director of the Development Planning Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, stated that in recent years, the quality level of arable land in China has improved, agricultural water consumption has become more efficient, the utilization rate of fertilizers, pesticides, and agricultural waste has increased, high-quality agricultural products have increased, and resource consumption has decreased. The concept of green agricultural development has gradually become deeply rooted in people's hearts. The report systematically reflects the overall level, major actions, and major achievements of China's agricultural green development from multiple perspectives such as production, life, ecology, and technology from 2022 to 2023. Specifically, in terms of agricultural resources, the number of arable land in China has continued to grow net. In 2022, there were a total of 1.914 billion mu of arable land in the country, with a net increase of about 1.3 million mu, and a total of 1 billion mu of high standard farmland has been built. The protected cultivation area of black soil in Northeast China is 83 million mu. During the 14th Five Year Plan period, China will complete the task of protecting and utilizing 100 million mu of black soil, and the average soil organic matter content will increase by more than 10%. For example, Huanghua City in Hebei Province is a typical area where saline alkali soil accumulates, and the entire cultivated land is mainly composed of medium to mild saline alkali land. In recent years, the local area has actively explored the green development model of saline alkali land agriculture, and transformed saline alkali land through technological innovation. The cultivated land area has increased from 770000 mu in 1980 to 1.41 million mu currently, gradually turning the saline alkali land that was once "nine out of ten years without harvest" into fertile farmland. In terms of agricultural environment, in 2022, the national application of agricultural fertilizers was 50.792 million tons, maintaining a downward trend for seven consecutive years. The comprehensive utilization rate of straw in the country remains above 86%, and the comprehensive utilization rate of livestock and poultry manure in the country has reached 78%. For example, Aohan Banner in Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, has achieved the goal of saving water, fertilizer, time, and labor in dryland areas by vigorously promoting the integrated water and fertilizer model, increasing the utilization rate of chemical fertilizers to over 43%. In addition, in terms of the supply of green agricultural products, the overall pass rate of routine monitoring of national agricultural product quality and safety has reached 97.8%, and the standardization level of agricultural production continues to improve; In terms of rural living environment, the national coverage rate of sanitary toilets in rural areas has reached about 75%, and the proportion of administrative villages that collect, transport and treat rural household waste has remained stable at over 90%. Xu Minggang, an academician of the CAE Member and a professor of Shanxi Agricultural University, said that at present, China's agricultural green development presents a number of new trends: first, innovation in research and development of green agricultural inputs, second, innovation in green planting and breeding technology, third, innovation in agricultural pollution prevention technology, fourth, scientific and technological innovation in agricultural information technology, fifth, innovation in agricultural product processing, storage and transportation technology, sixth, innovation in facility agriculture and urban agriculture technology. Despite significant achievements, the green development of agriculture in China is still in its infancy and faces some shortcomings. For example, the implementation of the concept of green development is not deep enough, the agricultural production mode is still relatively extensive, the supply of high-quality green agricultural products is still insufficient, and the incentive and restraint mechanisms for green development are not yet sound. Xu Minggang stated that as a new round of global technological revolution and industrial transformation is poised to take off, China must focus on development trends, plan top-level deployment of key core technology innovation, and continuously improve agricultural innovation and competitiveness. The green development of agriculture is related to national food security, resource security, and ecological security, and is a major event that benefits the present and future generations. Agricultural green development needs to achieve systematic and comprehensive green transformation in a wider range of fields. Zhang Zonghe, former Secretary of the Party Group of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, suggested that in order to stimulate new quality productivity through green transformation, various natural conditions should be fully understood. At the same time, strict control over the total amount of agricultural water use, reduction in the use of fertilizers and pesticides, and basic resource utilization of livestock and poultry manure, crop straw, and agricultural film have been achieved. Actively building a green lifestyle in rural areas, comprehensively achieving green development from aspects such as lifestyle concepts, consumption patterns, and conservation awareness.
