The former residence of Lu Xun in Shanghai has been reopened to the public
2024-09-26
The former residence of Lu Xun in Shanghai, located in Dalu New Village on Shanyin Road, will reopen to the public on the 25th. This new-style alleyway building, built in 1931, was Lu Xun's third residence in Shanghai. Lu Xun moved here with his wife and children on April 11, 1933, and passed away here on the morning of October 19, 1936. As a literary giant, Lu Xun successively wrote and compiled seven miscellaneous collections of historical novels, including "New Stories", "Pseudo Freedom Book", "Collection of Southern and Northern Tunes", and "Essays from Jieting". He translated four foreign literary works, including "Dead Souls and Spirits", and printed and published Chinese and foreign prints such as "Woodcut Chronicles". He also edited and edited Qu Qiubai's translation collection "The Forest of the Sea". In 1950, the former residence of Lu Xun in Shanghai was restored under the guidance of Lu Xun's wife Xu Guangping. In 1959, it was listed as a cultural relic protection unit in Shanghai. In order to strengthen the protection and utilization of the former residence, the former residence of Lu Xun in Shanghai will be closed for renovation from June 1, 2024. This renovation work is based on the principle of "restoring the old as it is", striving not to change the original style of the former residence, restoring the architectural features of the new-style alleyway, and allowing the audience to "get closer" to a more authentic Lu Xun during the visit. Lu Xun advocated the emerging woodcut movement and cared for and cultivated a large number of woodcut youth. To commemorate the 143rd anniversary of the birth of Mr. Lu Xun, the former residence of Lu Xun in Shanghai also held a woodcut printing activity on the day of its reopening, inviting residents of surrounding communities to pick up ink and rollers and personally print woodcut works, leaving their own "impression" of Lu Xun.
