The Manchu New City Opera "Gao Feng Yuan Fu Fan Wencheng" premiered in Changchun on the evening of the 25th. The play was created and arranged by the Songyuan Manchu New City Opera Inheritance and Protection Center over a period of two years, with a strong ethnic flavor. Manchu New City Opera is the only Manchu opera genre in China. It is based on Manchu folk art and integrates various forms of artistic expression, with a strong ethnic style, regional characteristics, and rich cultural connotations. In 2021, Manchu New City Opera was included in the fifth batch of representative projects of national intangible cultural heritage. Liu Haibo, a national first-class actor and director of "Gao Fengyuan Fu Fan Wencheng", introduced that the drama is based on the life of Fan Wencheng, showing the story of Fan Wencheng actively promoting equality, unity, and integration among all ethnic groups with outstanding wisdom and courage in the changing historical situation. It is reported that "Gao Feng Yuan Fu Fan Wencheng" is a project funded by the National Arts Foundation in 2023. Liu Haibo's other Manchu New City Opera work, 'Sprinkle One Meter of Sunshine', is a project funded by the National Art Fund in 2022. The predecessor of Songyuan Manchu New City Opera Inheritance and Protection Center was the Manchu New City Opera Troupe, established in 1960. At present, only the Songyuan City Manchu New City Opera Inheritance and Protection Center is inheriting and developing Manchu New City Opera. The performance that night was packed. Chen Xiqiang, a national first-class actor and the fourth generation inheritor of Manchu New City Opera, played Fan Wencheng and brought a wonderful performance to the audience. Chen Xiqiang has been involved in Manchu New City Opera for over 20 years. He said in an interview that unlike other genres, the music and performance style of Manchu New City Opera are very unique. The music is mainly composed of octagonal drums, with 20 pieces, combined with Manchu folk tunes, forming our own unique theatrical style. In terms of performance, we imitate forms such as cranes and eagles to express the characteristics of the characters in the play.
