Breaking the foam of "quick education" under the intermediary interest chain
2024-09-25
Recently, according to the "Rule of Law Daily", the study abroad market has exposed a scandal of intermediaries exaggerating their publicity, and "quick education degree" advertisements are rampant on social media platforms. Some illegal organizations use "online postgraduate studies" and "fast certification" as bait, vigorously promoting "package certification" or having "internal channels", taking advantage of the low threshold of some overseas universities to launch so-called "one-stop" services, which even include suspected fraudulent behaviors such as ghostwriting papers and guaranteeing graduation. In response, the Study Abroad Service Center of the Ministry of Education recently issued a statement, clearly stating that it has not cooperated with any intermediaries and reminding consumers to be vigilant and beware of false advertising. To rectify the "fast track education", it is necessary to start from the social background and market supply and demand relationship, explore the reasons for the formation of the "fast track education" black industry chain, and on this basis, apply practical and effective administrative measures. In today's society, education is often regarded as an important measure of a person's ability and even value. Valuing education and respecting knowledge is not wrong, but some scholars pursue "quick education", which has exceeded the reasonable scope of attention. Intermediary agencies cleverly utilize the concept of "education first" and the prevalent utilitarian and quick fix mentality in society, carefully creating a black industry chain with the gimmick of quickly obtaining high education. This industry chain starts with false advertising, attracting seekers through exaggerated advertising, promising unrealistic guarantees such as "package certification" and "internal channels", and enticing seekers to pay high fees. Once consumers are dragged into this industry chain, intermediary agencies not only provide illegal "one-stop" services such as ghostwriting papers and guaranteeing graduation, but also attempt to obtain false academic credentials for learners through illegal means. This behavior seriously violates the original intention of education and also has an impact on social equity. From the hype in the intermediary industry to the requirements of employers, various social backgrounds have further alienated the concept of "education first" into a blind pursuit of "one diploma". The learning process and ability development achievements represented by academic qualifications have become neglected objects. A seemingly high value educational certificate may just be the first "stepping stone" for job seekers in the workplace. Under this pressure, some job seekers, driven by anxiety, are easily attracted by the so-called shortcut to quickly obtain a higher education, neglecting the improvement and accumulation of their actual abilities. Distorted concepts and profit driven industrial chains are intertwined, forming a vicious cycle. Intermediary agencies make huge profits through false advertising and improper means, which may lead job seekers into the quagmire of fraud and even affect their future career development and life plans. Education is a long-term process, and cultivating and improving students' abilities and qualities cannot be achieved overnight. The principle of "fast track education" runs counter to these principles. At the same time, "fast track education" also provides some people with the opportunity to obtain educational dividends through improper means, leading to the expulsion of good money from bad money and depriving others of fair opportunities. To rectify the chaos of "fast track education", it is necessary to first crack down severely on intermediary agencies engaged in illegal activities. In addition, attention should also be paid to the devaluation of education and the screening mechanism of the job market. With the improvement of education level, the team of highly educated talents has been expanding, and the value of education in the market has gradually depreciated, forming an embarrassing situation of "more monks than porridge". In the case of a large number of job seekers, companies often tend to set hard criteria such as educational background to quickly screen resumes in order to save recruitment costs, even if their intention is to recruit truly capable talents, rather than investing more resources in personalized assessments. In this situation, it is deeply regrettable that some job seekers have gone astray and chosen a "crash course diploma" as a coping strategy. At the end of the day, injecting education for the sake of "gilding" may lead to short-term gains, but in the long run, it will ultimately harm others and oneself. The construction of a benign ecology of higher education still needs joint efforts from various aspects, such as degree awarding, certification, market supervision, etc., to break the academic foam under the intermediary interest chain, and avoid scholars being confused by the intermediary institutions.
